Hey all,

just got my case and power supply, what is the recommended way to place to PSU? has a fan on the top of it, so do I have the fan up towards the mobo, or flip it upside down so the fan is pointed towards the bottom of the case?

Which way do the fans on psu's usually spin? to exhaust air? Thanks for the help

Cheers

It should be pointing down so that the fan brings in fresh air from under your case and exhausts it out the back of your case to keep your psu cool.

make sure the fresh air is filtered. dust can and will accumulate pretty fast in there without one

If you have a case with a bottom PSU intake vent, then the fan should be facing that way. If you have an Antec case (those stubborn idiots use bottom PSU mounts but don't put any vents there), then the fan should be facing up. But whenever possible, down would be the preferable orientation.

The only reason that you would have the fan facing up when there is an intake grill on the bottom is if the case is sitting on carpet. In that situation I would recommend the fan be facing up as carpet will attract and hold a lot of dust/lint.
When I put my case on carpet and blew it out after the 1st month, the dust and lint was horrendous. After reversing the psu and cleaning the next time, it was virtually dust/lint free. Now it goes 3 mths between cleanings and still doesn't show much garbage.
