Hey folks,

Small question, I'm building a PC for my brother but I'm hesitating in either getting him a 280 or 280X. He's going to do 1080p gaming at the highest settings and games will include Dragon Age: Inquisition and possibly the Division so it does need a powerful GPU. The pricing difference between the two are huge so I don't want him to get a 280X if the price\performance isn't there.

Thanks for you help in advance guys.

Looking on newegg.ca the price difference between the 2 is around 40$ if you really refer to 280 and 280x. I would go with a 280 with as many as 5 star reviews as possible and dual or triple fan cooling.

280 has quite a poor presence and not too many or too good reviews. I would go with a 280X, the Gigabyte windforce model seems very good.

I run two 280x's and can run almost evertyhing but MSAA on bf4 and get 120fps. 1 easily gets 60 on ultra.

Both I could part with as I may go with Nvidia. So you maybe can get uber performace for a cheap price as they are getting lower and lower in value

i'm also currently running dual 280x's and there actually quite nice. i personally would hold off just a little bit longer as some of the 290's and 290x's are decreasing in price along with everything else. either way it all comes down to what resolution is the build gonna use .
