Hey Guys I cheaped out on my Nas and have been gifted 4 3 tb hard drives. Currently im using a 2 TB hard drive which I filling up quickly. Im thinking of installing a larger hard drive and also having a hard drive in my computer of the same size just to hold a backup of all the files. Is there a program that will treat my nas as a raid of my desktop hard drive and also allow DLNA streaming?

Or perhaps the better approach would be to make my downloads go directly to the nas as I've been doing and than use my hard drive in my computer to act as the raid device? The reason I would do this is so I can immediately use the music files I buy once downloaded from the nas instead of waiting to sync the raid from my desktop.

Currently I access the Nas from my Harmon Hardon Receiver, Xbox one, Cell phone and Computer's/Laptops for mostly music and movies.

What model of Synology? Maybe you could get USB enclosures for some of the HDD's and plug them into the NAS?

You could put the drives into your PC though and install Plex. That's arguably the best media-streaming software out there and it also does DLNA.

Yes I know about plex but I don't want to leave my $1500 rig on 24/7 not to mention the power bill. It's a synology s115j. I think what makes the most sense is to somehow have the downloads go directly to the nas and than mirror the nas on the desktop. I highly doubt that's possible though due to differnece formatting. Isn't there a software that exists? The other option is i download everything on my pc than just copy everything over manually...which i guess wouldn't too bad seeing as I like to organize and related music albums.

As far as leaving the computer on it would use too much power and I don't want to take turn it off whenever I want to use it. The idea is at least for my.music is i come home and have full access to all my flac files all from my phone from my nas playing out my receiver...and it works great. I just want to have a redundant backup.
