Hi,
I am building a new pc for college and was a bit wondering if all i choosed was correct so far?
I am not really playing often, just by moments so i don't see the point of having a 400$ graphic card so far, it`s just for everyday computing and slight gaming.

case:antec 900 FREEBIE
cpu:INTEL CORE I5-2500K QUAD CORE
cooler:COOLER MASTER V8 CPU COOLER
motherboard:ASUS P8Z68-V LE SKT.1155 INTEL Z68
memory:CORSAIR CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9 VENGEANCE 4GB
graphic card:eVGA GEFORCE GTX 550 Ti
harddrive:WESTERN DIGITAL WD1002FAEX 1TB CAVIAR BLACK
dvd drive:PIONNER DVR-219LBK 24X
powersupply:XFX 550W P1-550S

PS:sorry for the caps

You should probably give us a budget and what resolution you are at.

The budget is under the 1000$ limit i want to overclock the system in the future to keep the computer up to date.

v8 is not exactly king of the hill but looks good.

get 8 gigs for 64 bit usage.

what else...hmm...

if you dont game use the onboard, if you game then get a 560 or 6950.

500 giger will do for os,or an ssd,or an ssd for caching some may say

psu is fine for single card and not monstruous overclocks on all.

and welcome aboard

Fine for the 8 gig memory, but i dont think i need some heavy caliber graphic card like a 6950, it doesnt if it can't run a game on max settings, being able to play it on decent fps rate is ok for me.
For the Psu, do you know a better one? not planing on going higher than 4 ghz, and not planing to more than a 100$ dollars for it :/ (but as long it can hold the cpu and a average graphic card)

ok

well the 550 xfx will do well. better one would be x series from seasonic or such...or hx from corsair.

you may regret that 'being able to play it on decent fps rate is ok for me' later on :)

Well maybe with something under 200$ for the graphic card i would be fine ,like maybe a sapphire 6850
anyway with the mountain of homeworks i'm receiving these days i don't think i'll play often for the next 3 years :haha:

given the use of everyday computing and slight gaming I think the cooler is a waste. Maybe save those couple dollars and use stock heatsink, or go for a cheaper cooler like a CM 212+.

Get a cooler master hyper 212, 2500K chips run really cool to begin with. Save some money there and then either get a 460 1gig for like 130 and or get a 560 but thats more of a 200. But dont get the v8, you will be very impressed with hyper 212's performance on the 2500k chip!

I personally like NVIDIA cards, as they all use the same drivers. Even a 470 you can now get on a discount these days. Check out NCIX's outlet store ebay, you can get some real good deals there.
