What's your flashlight?

Heh... found a link to the lights I've been using... biggest complaint is 3X AAA, but they've got both magnetic mount and a stand.
I have one of those as well. Works great for the price. Bought some ikea rechargeable batteries for it.

The test candidates have all (finally) arrived! What would you guys like to see as part of a review roundup for flashlights? Do I go as far as buying a light meter or will you guys be okay with my slightly subjective opinions ?

Subjective should be fine IMO as long as you can do all testing at the same time or in a controlled environment. A couple thoughts for your consideration:

1. Beam width (narrow/wide) and evenness (bright spot in the middle vs consistent)
2. Battery life (total useable)
3. Charge time
4. brightness consistency over battery life (for example, how much dimmer after an hour use)
5. brightness drop due temp/volt drop (say within 1-5 min)...I have seen lots of flashlights get hot or that the battery cannot sustain the current draw, and while they look amazing for a minute or so, it has quite a pronounced drop within a relatively short time).

The cheap ones are okay for some uses but don't last very long.

I have small 2 flashlights that have survived quite a long time that I got from Lee Valley Tools. They were a lot cheaper then than they are now too. I'd hate to have to replace them.

But I do use a headlamp now far more frequently so I have both hands free. I have one very old one that the head band has lost a lot of it's elasticity but still works. The new one is much brighter and a better headband.
