I'm upgrading a friends PC and ran into a snag.

Upgraded his 8800GT for a Radeon HD5770, I get no video from the GPU, but from onboard. Put 8800GT back in, working. Tested HD5770 in my own PC, works fine, it's not defective.

Any ideas? Every individual component is fully functioning, so I'm stumped.

fiddle with pci first in bios just in case.

5770 is an upgrade, yes but the difference wont be earth shattering lol

Did you plug in all the power 6 pin connectors?

Obviously I did if the 8800GT still works in the system. Fiddled with BIOS (whatever functions they have, one of the most crippled BIOSes I've seen), and nothing helps. PC still works, its like its "ignoring" the 5770. Tried Winflash to see if it was possible to update BIOS, but it freezes the PC.

I'm leaning towards just incompatibility. Quick Google of 945GC + 5770 shows the same issues. May be worth it to pick up a Biostar G41 board from CanadaComputers and give it a shot.

Did you uninstall the nvidia drivers, ran Drivercleaner in Safe mode and installed the Ati drivers?

That wouldn't cause no video when it starts up. Drivers aren't necessary for display in BIOS :bleh:.

New board worked fine. I assume an incompatibility with an old chipset and new GPU.
