XFX Radeon R9 290X DD Edition Review Comment Thread

VRM and mining temperatures?

Don't forget to optimize the vBIOS chris! Also, a lot of people are saying the XFX GPUs are using shoddy components that are even worse than reference...

VRM temps would be nice to see actually. please check while you have it available.

these coolers are sleek and what not but i tend to wonder if they loose some performance for the looks when most people will be sticking it in a case with out a window :P..

Right under the temperature chart:

"We should also mention that the VRM temperatures –a longtime issue for XFX heatsinks- remained at 76°C throughout the test which is well below safe operating temperatures for these devices."

Yep saw that too. The "Ghost 2" heatsink is supposed to be optimized for consistent temps. Stability is pretty important to me, even at the expense of performance. This card seems to be a good balance.

I did not read the entire review but I thought I should ask where the warranty duration information is in the review? I think it is important to point out that this card has Lifetime warranty. "...if it has 2 fans, its a lifetime warranty. Rule of Thumb, applies to every XFX card (2 fans = lifetime warranty. The warranty Is not transferable, first owner only. (exception, 6000 series had some dual fan models with transferable warranties)" NCIX FORUMS - Lifetime warranty - XFX Radeon R9 290 OC 980MHZ 4GB 5.0GHZ G...

EDIT: Now I see that Sky has the warranty labelled as Three years. That cannot be correct, right??

Do they come with the full amount of VRM? Apparently on the 7950 and 7970, a lot of them were removed.

Judging by this (oddly phrased) sentence in the review, it seems it is still a reference board underneath, just like the Sapphire Tri-X OC and Gigabyte WF3s.

"While they have a completely reference design and the higher end, overclocked and custom cooled Black Edition, the DD is equipped with stock clock speeds and the same GHOST 2 heatsink as the Black Edition. "

That's not to say they won't come out with a PCB revision later on and still use the same manufacturers part number. :angry2:
