NVIDIA GTX 760 Review Comment Thread

i wonder if this 760 will also change some prices for the amd line as well.

A standard HD 7970 is NOT on par with the GTX 760. That's just preposterous. The GTX 760's closest competition is the HD 7950 Boost, a card that's a good 15 - 20% behind a non-GHz Edition HD 7970.

Yeah, the 7970 is and always has been a complete beast of a card. Few cards can touch it for sheer power...unfortunately AMD's own cards don't even seem to come close to the performance of a 7970.

On a brighter note, I very well may just jump on a 760. Depending on if someone buys my SLI 660's, I'll get a single 760 to start with, then SLI it in a month or so. Not the most financial saavy thing, to go from two 660's to a 760, but Meh, I have the itch!

If I had to put my money on it, I'd say AMD will roll out a different / upgraded Never Settle program in the next few weeks.

to me personally thats a shame. i guess for someone who doesnt already have a fixed game and or games they play its okay but its pretty bleh. is there any game pc wise thats new that already isnt on there reloaded list or has been.

is this truly going to be there last 7 series card this year sky? was kind of hoping for a variant.

Linus tests all of the cards at max OC speeds.

Yeah, that means the 7950 overclocks like crazy,i understand, destroys the 760,bad for nvidia...There is no point buying a 760 then... as long as you have decent cooling...

Linus's tests don't mean a shred to me. Lots of people, myself included, don't overclock their video cards, therefore I am only interested in stock clocked benchmarks. Now, you may ask what is the point of getting a big, fancy, twin or triple fan cooler on my video card that I won't overclock? They're quite a bit more quiet, even at stock, than the reference cooler.

You mean 7950? Well, 7950 is better to OC because it isn't as locked down as an Nvidia card. Take Linus' review for example (here). The 7950 can almost beat an OC'd 7970 (yes, that's right, 7950 max OC ~= 7970 max OC) while the 760 just doesn't quite have the gusto to make big improvements over its stock performance.
Whoops. My bad. Ya I meant the 7950 Boost. But I guess that's expected considering the 7950 is roughly $50 more expensive. Still amazed at the performance difference once overclocked. 7950 absolutely destroys the GTX 760, which is pretty much on par or slightly better than the GTX 660 TI.

Testing at max OC speeds is ridiculous without points of reference (ie: stock clocks). Every sample OCs differently which means there will be a massive statistical variance....something that shouldn't be part of any review.
