Greetings!

I know it's my first post and I'm already asking for help... :D

I want to buy new gpu since my previous burned and I'm without any. So I was thinking about getting 970 and I'm stuck between EVGA SSC and FTW+. Not sure which one should I pick or maybe should I go for Gigabyte G1 (tho I don't think it will fit in my case:D)?

Any help, word of wisdome would be nice ;)

I think before you ask about which video card to buy, we should ask why did your last video card fail? What parts do you currently own, particularly your power supply followed by CPU/motherboard. Assuming that the setup your new video card is going to be used in wasn't the problem for you last cards failure I would recommend the EVGA SSC only because you alluded to a possible problem accommodating the Gigabyte card (my personal preference is Gigabyte).

Some people have issues with gigabyte if there are problems with the card (though they do produce a great version of most cards). EVGA is good for warranty, but does require shipping to the US. MSI and ASUS have RMA in Canada. Really its personal preference, and desire for pre-OC'd cards/colors/quietness/temps/etc.

What are your priorities? And as mentioned above, why did you previous card die? What are your other system specs?

Video Cards

It's best to know a bit about ur system, however, I would list them as such, based on benching results from previous versions and the current ones I own.

Now as cooling has improved considerably across the board, some brands r likely much better.

EVGA Asus Gigabyte Galax then MSi. Some of the other brands like Club 3D I have never benched b4. Hands down EVGA for everything, warranty,performance,...

For performance past the EVGA, the DIRCU II OC series rival EVGA, though warranty experiences have left a bad taste in my mouth too many times recently to recommend buying new.

I buy used, I know it works, and if I have a RMA then I'm getting back a refurbed anyway.

I have had decent results with Galaxy cards b4 but haven't benched 1 for a while. Same with the Gigabyte, which overall has imho the most improved cooling compared to b4 WF.

Again, these are not carved in stone.

My current 980 Strix, with wb got over 8600 on the memory. Again, this is also subjective as some buy to match their colour scheme or for other reasons, brand loyalty,...

Even then, it's still a crap shoot as I've had reference models beat performance based models,...I can't stress enough about cooling though, as most cards dump the heat into the case.

If it gets warmer than you would like change or add case fans to higher cfms, or add a gpu fan if u don't already have one. I leave a cpl extra expansion slots open to improve air flow.

Most on here have had plenty of experience with different gpus, so I'm sure they can recommend stuff based on experience as well as if not better than I can.

Hope that helps a bit.

Having just done the EVGA RMA process about two months ago, I will say that it's remarkably painless. Shipping to the US wasn't that much for a GPU and everything was quick and return shipping didn't take too long. I can't speak to ASUS/MSI since I haven't had to RMA with them yet.

Asus and MSI have both been very painless for me. Southern ON for both companies (Markham specifically outside Toronto) means fast service for Ontario, and 'usually' faster then the USA Gigabyte/EVGA dealing with.

Good to hear, I've heard mixed on ASUS before, but it seems to depend on if it's a GPU, Monitor, MB or something else. Looking at mostly Asus stuff for the next build.

MSI also has a West coast RMA facility in Richmond, BC.

I am also in the same predicament as the OP, though am still undecided if I'll be getting a GTX 970 or one of the 960s. Nevertheless, I had largely decided on MSI (unless prices sway me). A Gigabyte G1 has better performance*, yet an Asus Strix is quieter. MSI's gaming card seems to offer a good compromise between the two.

* Assuming it fits your case, of course. Good thing I bought an ATCS 840.

I have a pair of Asus Strix's that are now watercooled and I must say that I have been very impressed with their performance and silence (more so that they are watercooled).
I originally went with EVGA but returned them as the coil buzz was noticeable oven over the noise of the fans at full load!
And just cos it's a pretty build here is a photo, lol...

Thanks all for relpies and sorry for my late reply. Been busy with work...

SO the reason why I've lost my card is... well, uknown. It was a gift from my UK friend who gave it to me when I was visiting him. I used to have Gigabyte GTX 560Ti and after getting my friends card I gave the old one to my brother. The "new" card is MSI 770 and it just doesn't work. After turning any game I get BSoD for next 15 mins. Same happened in 2 other PCs I tried to run it on.

As for my specs: Intel Core i5-3579K @3.4 Ghz, MSI Z77A-GD55, 8gigs of Hyper ram and my PSU is bequiet 850W.
