Witcher 3 - The Wild Hunt

For the record I have nothing overclocked, 970 at stock, cpu is a 3570k at stock speeds. I did install the new driver before running the game first time, in fact GTAV felt like it ran much smoother with this Witcher driver, but I did notice that my idle temp for the 970 was higher after using this driver and it took alot longer to come down with extra fans in the room. I'm going to revert to the previous GTAV driver and try W3 again.

@Nodscene, you should grab the first two Witchers next time they're on sale, and blow through them on easy mode just for the story alone. By then the third game will be going on sale and you can complete the story. From the little bit I've seen of this one there's alot of references from the other games.

Yep references from the previous games as well as novels. Hard to believe this is the third time the Black Ones have invaded the North in the past (10-15 years)

So much for an awesome PC port with a ton of options. My God where are the rest of the graphics settings!?

Has anyone been able to find where the Contrast is for the game? I find on my monitor I have to increase it within a game more than the default and for the life of me I couldn't find it. Is it there and I've missed it, or did they just leave it out....which would be weird since I recall console games back in the 360 days having contrast settings.

What do you feel it is missing? It seems like it has everything most titles have plus more.

I don't ever remember games having the option for contrast. Most games have a slider for gamma, as does TW3.

There are obviously some settings missing or nerfed if I can go into an .ini file, change some numbers and make the game look absolutely stunning.

Dammit that is what I meant and where the hell is it? I seem to always miss it whenever I go in the settings.

What settings are you changing Sky?

I'm using the settings in the Polish post linked a few posts back. The only difference is a larger shadow map and increased foliage visibility.

The game does run my GPU crazy hot. Saw 44C on my 980 yesterday! That is the highest it has ever seen.

The only crashes I get are the occasional lockup while in inventory. Setting to 'Power management mode' in Nvidia Control Panel to maximum for the game seems to help. Only locked up once in the inventory all evening yesterday.

I see no reason to start modding the appearance of the game. I think it looks pretty good. I get 75 - 95 FPS almost steady and for that low-ish (to me) frame rate it still looks very fluid. Even most hair w/ Nvidia hair off looks better than any other game.

44C! wow, is that with a custom fan profile? I can't believe the 980s are that efficient! My 970 hits 60 with teh fan ramping to about 50%. (1080p, most things maxed, nv hair off)

edit: someone's comparison videos with a 970, I guess this card really does struggle with the game

I think it has plenty of graphic options, more than most games this day and age. That said yes I went into the .ini and changed a couple things. But remember as it stands you already need a beast of a machine to crank everything up if you are at 1440 or higher res. and that is not counting the ini tweaks. Go look at the Nvidia tweak guide for good settings and what they do. I know that is how I got mine all set up.

As for the overclocked cards I have not once had a single issue with the game crashing and have had my cards OC'd. But I have had issues right after installing the newest Nvidia driver. When I am not in the game it is crashing and restarting a lot. I bet in the last two days it has done it twenty-thirty times. Hopefully Nvidia puts out a new driver soon as I know I'm not the only one who has reported issues with it.

That is nothing, my 780ti's are getting close to the temp slowing them down, hovering right near 80C.
