Thanks for the warning, that's unfortunate. Hopefully people have some sort of anti-malware solution installed on their systems.

Sounds more similar to the Notepad++ "attack", but maybe not geo-targeted. If you managed to get the legit link, the binaries themselves were still signed and correct. Seems like it was just randomly giving bad links as well to the malware instead.
