New Game - In The Black

this is where you'll want foot pedals to help control your thrusters.
Not necessarily. I ended up ditching foot pedals in my current setup and switched to other axis for control. Modern flight sticks that add the twist axis handle this nicely and are less cumbersome (and easier on the back!) than pedals. I still like pedals for a flight/jet sim, but I don't find them necessary in a space sim even with this type of flight model.

Star Citizen allows you to decouple they call it, meaning you have close to Newtonian flight controls. You can also turn off the flight computer aids like auto-slowdown when gear are deployed, G-safe controls so you black out less, etc. if you want that more "real" space flight feeling.

Nothing wrong with pedals of course. I just decided it wasn't worth it in my experience.
