Then maybe you should read some updated reviews, or visit forums besides HC. The main problem you are refering to is early ATI/NV multi-gpu drivers. The 7800GX2 was probably the worst dual GPU card I've owned. The 9800GX2 was better, but game support for it was still very bad. I took a break...
The number of GPU's really don't matter very much...it's really about pricepoint. The 5970 is now available for $469...NVidia has gone through two seperate launches (400 & 500 series) since the 5970 was launched and AMD still has the fastest graphics card available.
NewEgg.com - I live in the...
The GTX 580 is available on NewEgg, yet I don't see any reviews. That's a bit unusual.
Edit: Looks like the NDA is up in 23 minutes (9am EST)...at least according to techpowerup.com.
The additional 512MB of memory really helps the GTX480 to pull away from the 5870 at 2560x1600. I've seen it in several reviews so there is a need for more than 1GB of memory.
I'm not positive about this, but the additional memory may also benefit in SLI/Crossfire setups since the data in...
Of course not....you don't seem to be following the thread. If the date of a paper launch as originally suggested is being moved forward that is a horrible thing. On the other hand, if the GTX 580 is going to be a hard launch and things are progressing better than expected, that's absolutely...
All recent launches have been, and until some rumor appears to say otherwise, why wouldn't you expect a hard launch?
The 5870 was available immediately...but it suffered supply issues as a result of a problem with TSMC's 40nm process. IMO there is a big difference between an uncontrollable...
I think reviewers should hold the cards and then publish a review of the GTX 580 and 6970 together. The whole idea of NV moving up the release date on a card they have no intentions of delivering on urks me. They will want reviews before the 6970 becomes avialable so the card is reviewed in a...
I'm running two 5870's in Crossfire and they've been absolutely great. I did find one minor bug in Battlefield Bad Company when it was first released, but it was fixed with a driver update. If you can hold out I'd definetly wait to see what AMD and NV have in store for this month. ATI's high...
It has the extra shaders, as well as the benefit of being fabbed on a more mature 40nm process. It should allow for higher overclocks. Overall it should be a good card when it does finally make it to retail.
There certainly is a GTX 580 coming in the very near future. It was recently listed on their site, and now it has been listed in their latest drivers:
Nvidia driver lists new cards
Pictures are appearing:

And the expected launch date has been moved up into...
Looks good. I've got to cut back from 12GB of memory to 6GB to reduce the load on the IMC. That would allow for some higher clocks and lower memory timings.
Looks like the 6870 topped the GTX 470 in all the gaming benchmarks (only showed 1920x1200, so results may vary). With an MSRP of $249 that's a pretty good value as long as you don't use your graphics card for folding. Just as I was about to start reading the overclocking section the article...
Agreed. I was looking forward to larabee to see how it would change the graphics landscape.
Ubisoft has issues with how they implemented DX11 tesselation. The Radeon HD5XXX and HD6XXX series are fully DX11 compliant. This bug should equally affect NV and AMD. AMD has show Ubisoft how to...
Baseless claims from either company are annoying, but this is interesting. Ubisoft did not correctly implement Direct 11 tesselation to specifically benefit nVidia. A quick look at the H.A.W.X. 2 website confirms my suspicions..."the way it is meant to be played."
Dirty trick nVidia...have a...
