I already have the following parts:
Coolermaster HAF 912
OCZ Fatal1ty 550W Power Supply
Patriot G series ‘Sector 5’ Edition 8GB
And I have 3 old 250gb Hard Drives that I'll be Raiding

I still need to get a mobo, disc drive, proc, and video card for $450 . This build will be used mostly for gaming, if you needed to know.

What I'm thinking:
Amd X4 955 BE $105
XFX HD 6950 $190 on sale
Lite-On Dvd Drive $20
Asus EVO 990x Mobo $135

This is $450 exactly. I plan on using the 955 for a while, at least until December, when I can afford the Bulldozer. Any suggestions? Remember, primarily a gaming build.

Seems like good options to me considering the budget!

Just make sure that the motherboard will or already has a bios upgrade to support Bullsozer processors and you're set!

.... And don't forget to grab a heatsink when you can afford one and OC the processor! Will help a good deal in gaming especially.

Where is this $190 6950? I would be on that in a heart beat.

As for the build, it is pretty good. I might say drop the 8GB and get a 212+, then another 4GB when you upgrade to bulldozer. I am thinking that you would see better performance with a higher clock speed, than with 8GB over 4GB. Playing at 1920x1080, I do not break 4GB usage when gaming. It would be wise to not wait too long to get that extra 4GB stick though, as RAM prices may start rising again. Just my thought...

Hmm, how is that psu, since most amd chips are pretty power hungry.

That system might pull 400W at full load, might be a bit much on a OCZ Fatality psu.

Other wise the match up looks good.

power hungry? i run a 1090T at 4Ghz, 8gbs of ram, 2 hdds, a 6870 w/ 1Ghz on the core and 1200 on memory, and i pull maybe 350w from the wall so a 955 will be even less, he'll be fine for now but an 8 core bulldozer might be different:whistle:

Thank you all for your quick response! I already own the power supply and ram, so I have no choice there. Thank you all so much for your help, I'll be ordering this tomorrow more likely then not. My only question that remains is as follows:
What's the chance that that memory will have incompatibility with that mobo?

almost none, and since the asus boards have mem ok (im pretty sure yours does) even if you do you just hit the button and it solve it.

given the budget and the planned upgrade path I would say those are pretty solid choices. I Agree that its not the best PSU choice out there, but it should run the rig fine (would have picked a different one myself).
