4.8 seems to be going okay based on reports from Org members. I haven't played it and likely won't get to for a couple weeks.
In the interest of commenting on both the positive and the negative, as I try to do, one of the big additions in 4.8 is Tactical Strike content.
Now this is a cool idea. Content that is supposed to require different roles for players in your groups, as you'll see in the linked video, but based on the first provided content it seems very linear, again as you'll see in the video. Rather than it being a collection of possible events, or random activities, or multiple ways to accomplish mission goals, it seems more like a scripted mission. You have to have certain roles, certain ships, you have to complete it in a specific sequence, and I believe the same things happens each time. I mean I guess other MMORPGs have had repetitive raids like this since the beginning, so maybe I'm just turning into a grumpy ol'gamer
Again, this is just the first release of this type of content, so it will undoubtedly evolve and improve, but even the way they described it at the last Citizen Con made me question the design thinking. For example, as I understand, entering the base can only be accomplished by blowing open the doors. I could be wrong but there are no alternative entry points. Stuff like that is more like an interactive movie, that isn't very replayable frankly, rather than an open world game.
Anyway, hopefully I'm wrong and it'll get cooler, or perhaps my opinion will change once I actually play it. Video promo below... and yes, strong homage to Star Wars vibes in this one!
