Hey guys,

Just looking for some price checks for a computer built with the following:

Processor: Intel i7-8700K (stock clocks)
GPU: Asus GTX 1080 8GB ROG Strix
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i v2
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z370-E
RAM: 16GB - 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance 8GB LPX 3000mhz
Case: Corsair Crystal 570X RGB
Power Supply: EVGA 650W 80+ GOLD Semi
Case Fans: Corsair SP120 W x3

I was thinking about $1,600 to $1,800? just wanted to see if I was in the right ballpark

While it's a nice build I think that's asking too much personally. Typically, and I can only speak for myself, I'd find a ball park / average price online and cut it in half(ish) Keep in mind you're selling against Ryzen too.

That's too high for a used rig. Especially when I can build a new AMD R5-3600 with a Nvidia 2070 for similar price. Z boards are pretty BS these days consider even a B chipped AMD board is unlocked and allow overclocking.

Personally, start by 20% to 30% off the $1,600. But you may have better luck splitting out into different combos:
  • Mobo + CPU then optional add on for RAM and CPU cooler
  • GPU separately
  • Case and PSU separately or sell as combo
You can try your luck selling the chopped up combos at close to eBay prices. The lowest price (completed transactions) I found on eBay for 8700K went for $203 USD (about 55% of MSRP). A lot seem to be around $300 USD which is about $426 CAD. Considering a new R5-3600 + decent B450 board it almost the same price as a used CPU on eBay, that makes little sense especially when I can get a warranty and know the CPU was not OCed beforehand. The GTX 1080 is closer to RTX 2060 in performance so I think pricing it a close to retail 1660 Super seem reasonable. Case and PSU are something I usually reuse until they die kind of thing.

In this case, pricing is dependent on knowledge. If you're dealing with general public, then I think you can get away with eBay pricing. If you're dealing with people on this forum, they probably won't. Like CL and I pointed out, you're competing against new AMD prices that's only 10% to 15% slower in games but low 1% and 0.1% are above 60fps anyway. However, AMD is still faster in certain production software.

I appreciate it, thanks! I think I'm just going to keep this as a spare PC and build a new Z490 Mini ITX build (I do a lot of photo/video work and run software optimized for Intel CPUs) moving forward. Cheers!

Probably a good idea man... its tough to sell intel against ryzen... especially used intel stuff.

That's why I didn't bother selling my old i5-6400, just trade it with my friend for his old i5-750 + dinner. I then gave the i5-750 away to my little cousins that need a PC. Hell even the FX9370 that's collecting dust in my basement is probably close to give away pricing. Anyone that knows anything about PC hardware won't bother spending $250 on an old 4/6/7 gen combo. I seen some insane prices on old i7-2600 as well.

If you do want to sell, I definitely recommend parting. The main reason is the case and fans are worth a lot, but in a bundle with the rest you won’t get what they are worth. GPU would also we an easy solo part sell.
