I put together a new build a little over a year ago. When it was first built It would randomly crash when I was not using it and would wake up to the screen sitting on the BIOS screen. Every time a quick reboot would resolve the issue and would not see it for a while. Recently (past few months) is is constantly doing the same thing. Occasionally it will crash while doing some simple web browsing, but never, and I mean never crashes while I am playing an intense game!

Error Message: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (0xEF)

Tried the following:
- running sfc /scannow (no issue found)
- running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (no issue found)
- chkdsk /f /r (no issue found)
- ran MEMTEST86+ (no issue found)
- stress tested processor for several hours (no issue found)
- ensured all drivers and BIOS were up to date
- wiped hard driver and performed clean install of Windows 11
- made sure NVME drives were up to date

Checked Minidmp with WinDbg
- found WDF_VIOLATION (10d) with ucx01000.sys
- FileDescription: USB Controller Extension

In one article it mentioned it could be an issue with defective hardware using a USB connection. Based on that I tried disconnecting all USB devices and let it sit, and it still crashed.

Anyone have any other ideas?

If you think it's a USB issue, disconnect your front panel as well and check for motherboard screw to the case. See if there's something loose between the board and the case and loose items.

On the cpu, do you have any undervolt, OC, PBO, auto oc, etc settings on/adjusted?

Have you tweaked the ram at all? XMP/expo on?

What are your cpu temperatures?
I have run it with default mobo settings, auto and with/without undervolting, over clocking, etc. RAM I have tried with and without XMP/expo and picking the exact RAM timings as well. CPU temperatures are great, sits at a pretty solid 35 degrees on idle and when stress testing the temperatures were fine. Built it in a Meshify 3 with plenty of fans/airflow.

I had not thought of the front panel USB connection! I will try that tomorrow and see how it goes. Thank you!

Disconnecting the front panel USB-C and USB-A from the motherboard seems to have resolved the issue! It's been over 24 hours running without a single crash.

I had actually ordered a Fractal Meshify 3 case the other day, picking it up after work. Going to try connecting USB back to the motherboard to see if it's just an issue with the case front panel I/O or an issue with the motherboard. Either way, I have a workable solution. Greatly appreciated Moocow!
