I thought about an externally mounted rad off the back but I know I won't like how it'll look.

You can cause a substantial drop in pressure by running parallel path of least resistance and all that jazz zero flow control other than depending both blocks to pressure up exactly the same. If you were to run a heating or cooling system in a house like that it wouldn't perform at all without some controls in place. It's almost always better to run in a series and it's cheaper too. I run both my 6970's in series loop and I have never seen the lower card higher than a degree over the 1st card in the loop.

To figure out what is needed for rads you simply need to know what your max thermal heat load is and your max thermal dissapation via the rads your using. The rule of thumb is ONE 120 rad w/ one fan for each water block.
