AM1: 9 motherboards discussed

I am really curious how can that thing game at like 1280x720, or should the settings be lowered? And I heard that they work best with a single DIMM.

going back to single channel ram will bottleneck things like games, but these are such low powered machines.

I think AM1 will make AMD a ton of money. 60 bucks for a mobo+cpu+gpu that will run mathematica and matlab and let you browse the web and play some good old games. This is going to be a godsend for poor students.

I wouldn't be surprised if schools buy tons of these for computer labs in the states. According to Popular Mechanics, some portion of standardized testing in the USA is going to be done on computers, and a lot of schools do not have computers capable of running even a modern we browser.

If only I could buy amd stock with maxcoin... I think it's going to be a good year for AMD

Yeah... I think folks need to get away from the idea that these are going to be fully capable gaming machines and instead think of them as the equivalent of the sub $400 laptop market which probably have 80%+ of PC sales.

I think, AMD is doing the right business move for its company as a whole. It doesn't have the RnD to compete with Intel on the Performance level, but that market share is small in comparison.
They own all 3 Console platforms, and now this. It will be, I think a great year for them which is good.
Now all they need to do is invest some of that capital and make Intel work harder for its money.

This AM1 platform is EXACTLY what I am looking for (well I hope so) in a small/short (aka not tall) mitx system that I can use towards my Sega Genesis Case Mod V2. Now I don't have to sacrifice performance of atom to get the motherboard size and heat sink height I've been wanting.

I've got the higher end Asrock board and a quad core on order.... also have a chance to test it out both in a low power enclosure (mini box M350) using a laptop power brick, and if there are any overclocking options..... a WC option I can test with. :)

The AM1 platform is really interesting. There are so many uses for a low powered computer that guys like us can make use of. Personally I have all ways wanted to make my own console, and a computer for the bathroom that runs off of voice control and mirror display.

Two of those boards really stand out for me. The Asrock AM1H-ITX that can run off of a power brick and the Biostar ITX board that cost only $35.

I am curious to know how tall that HSF and fan are for the Kabini, as it's hard to tell exactly from pictures (and I may have glossed over a review or two that actually stated it)
