Videocardz reporting on a post from Board Channels that AMD is delaying the plan to retire the B650 chipset due to increasing DDR5. Basically, no one is going to build a new PC due to RAM pricing. So to combat this, they will keep B650 around to keep entry level systems cheaper.

Isn't B650 a DDR5 board? I don't see the relevance. You are saying they will support it until DDR5 becomes affordable again?

I was equally confused as well by that article because both B650 and B850 are DDR5 boards. B850 is just an update to the B650 (slightly worst update). So I guess there is some kind of price difference between the two to warrant keeping the old B650 around. From the sound of the article, they want to keep the overall cost low. Since they can't control DDR5 prices, they can only control the board price, or specifically the chipset. I can't see B650 boards be like $100 cheaper, at most I see is $50, that's nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Large number of b650 boards brand new are $150-200
b850 boards have prices starting at 200 and climb rapidly beyond that... not sure I'm B650 production makes sense when there is already budget B850 boards

Basically that at most $50 difference @moocow mentioend doesn't make sense to me either. When memory prices have 2-3-4xed pervious priced saving $50 on the board isn't helping.

Same physical chip as b850, but I guess the boards can be made cheaper because amd doesn’t mandate the same IO features with b650

All the AIB will take a hit this year. No GPU, no RAM = no mobo and no CPU sales. Even if Zen 6 comes out by Q3 next year, if the DDR5 and GDDR6 and 7 aren't there, no one will make a sale.
