AMD Radeon HD 6970 and HD 6950 Review Comment Thread

Whew, that was quite the read. Methinks I will save my pennies for a larger monitor, then worry about a new card. While the increase in FPS over the last gen is impressive for both AMD and Nvidia, I still don't lag on any game with my GTX470 @ 1920x1200.

Excellent review. However I noticed that in a lot of reviews lately, you keep on giving out the Dam Good Value award. If one was to base their purchase on your conclusion, what the hell would they pick?!.

Says below the image: HD 6950 wins the awards. :thumb:

It (6970)won't have a hard time at all, and with a close to 40% price difference between it and a 580 I don't see how that can be downplayed so much. 'Top' end cards being run at 'top' end displays like 30" or multi-monitor setups are showing the difference to be nowhere near a 40% price variance.

We're going to see a GTX280 style price chop, there's no way things will remain as is.

So... looks like the 6950 is AWESOME! But... 570 is more worth it than the 6970 it looks like. Better value, and most people would have a res of 1080p or lower if they are at this price point... so better performance for most people. Also, 570 runs cooler and draws less power.

The 6950's will sell like hotcakes though! Thinking of upgrading to either a 6950 or a 570 in the new year :)

Oh, and thanks for the review  Great as always.

I'm really torn between the GTX 570 and HD 6970. The GTX 570 looks like a far better buy atm but I'm curious as to how much newer drivers will affect the performance of the 6970. Especially considering It manages to beat the GTX 580 at 2560x1600 on the just cause 2 benchmark and seems to jump around in terms of performance on a few of the other benchmarks.

What's going to happen if the 570's show up with rebates or are flat out priced @ $329 or slightly lower?

Would this make the 570's the best overall buy between the 2 69xx?

I would think so, I've always thought the 580 is too expensive and that card could use a price cut, although, it's not having any trouble selling.

I would wait it and see how Nvidia responds.

wow, they are much better than the 6850...

but, considering i got these at 200 a pop, i can live with that.

Have to hand it to amd, they have been kicking ass with the cards and pricepoints

Even when they don't win the performance crown, they do price their products accordingly.

Nvidia needs to hurry with the 560 now.

I'd like to see Overclocked 570 vs Overclocked 6970, couple days I give it. :)
