Best wireless router

That's how I got hooked. Used my AC68 just for routing and got the AP. Ran the wiring to my second floor ceiling and mounted it and immediately got hooked on their stuff. I don't use the USG and have opted for pfsense in a VM until they fix up their USG series to bring the GUI features on par with the edgerouter line.
 
I went totally overboard....bought a edgerouter pro 8 lol (for the load balancing of 4g home internet connection and ADSL2+). Use my Asus rt-ac68u as AP. 24 port TP Link switch (10yrs old).

Looking forward to adding some security camera's outside the house (maybe one inside). A wireless point to point connection and security camera down at the horse shed. Perhaps a secondary NAS backup at shed (someday).

The edgerouter was a learning experience....but for the better. So much fun using it now....

If I hadn't gone the way I did. I would have most likely gotten a synology rt2600ac.

Ehhh not really, I have one too :thumb:

I got it mostly for the ability to run fq-codel at 100Mbps. I also do have a 25Mbps failover DSL connection too, but I don't load-balance traffic. It's only if my Cable connection goes down.

My adsl2+ is only 10/1 but it is unlimited
4G home is 25/25 but has a 200GB cap..hoping for 5g a few yrs down the road.

I use the adsl2+ for the bulk of the downloading I do (radarr and Nzget) and gaming (better ping vs 4g home).
I use the 4g for the upload speed to do twitch streaming. But I also use it for the main connection via web to the Synology DS916+...photo sharing to family back home and my Plex server (personal use when away from house).

I swapped out the fans in my Pro8 (stock fans so loud! in comp room). I ended up putting Noctua fans in (this really helped lower the noise) and actually reversing the fans to push air in vs pulling. Others mentioned reversing and seeing lower temps.....I also experienced lower temps as well.

Even with the quieter fans I ended up moving the pro8 to the garage.

The edgerouter is amazing...I game on one computer (using the adsl). Run OBS from Gaming rig, stream over the LAN to OBS on the Laptop. And the Laptop then streams to twitch using the 4g. And it all works so flawless! No hicups...nothing ....just purrs!

Sorry to go on about it..not many in this small town to chat with over it. And my wife is into horses (I only hear from her when something computer/internet isn't working)....so I do all this stuff and the farmers in town blankly look at you when talking about it. I figure out how to do all this stuff with internet and alone....first time diving into Wans, lan and NAS..etc etc. Fun! once you get it all figured out.
