All 3 models seem to review well enough and roughly the same price. Any brand preferences amongst people here?

The Canon seems to be the latest model of Rtings recommendation, and is a bit cheaper. It also is the biggest of the bunch though and I'm a bit short on space where my existing inkjet lives. I suppose it can hang over the edge of the cabinet?

The most compact of the bunch, and seems to have readily available third party toners. Whether or not HP blocks that though is an unknown. Seemingly all ADF scans will be crooked, but I don't do that often, and some aggressive "noise" removal on scans.

Slowest of the bunch it seems, separate drum (is that a pro or a con?), toner slightly cheaper though due to not having drums in each "cartridge".

While I suppose there's nothing wrong with my inkjet either, a whole $89 back in April 2014 from NCIX:

I feel like maybe it's time to get something new. I can't really imagine any of these lasers being worse? Even if reviews tend to be critical of small things.

I've been buying cheap ink which I think I change 2-3 times a year and the page count is only at 5816. The math doesn't quite seem right as the cartridges claim 600 pages, but I find there's always a fair bit of ink left in them when the printer reads empty.

I would hope high-yield toner lasts me at least 5yr? They claim between 2500-3000 pages. But that's still another $300-500 depending if I buy manufacturer or not. So then really it becomes a $1000 printer

FWIW (and it's pretty anecdotal and out of date, so probably not much), I've had a Brother laser printer that I bought in 2008 that's still kicking. It's only B&W, mind you, but I think I've refilled the toner twice in the entire time I owned it. And I do mean refilled, as I just bought a bottle of cheap toner and refilled the cartridge myself.

If Brother is still making printers like they used to, you won't go wrong getting another one.

Not sure what your first concern is, but if it's longevity of ink we've had great results with our Brother INKVestment tank AIO.

We got 16 months / 1700 page prints out of the initial carts.

No refurbs currently available, but they've got their newer duplex / wifi/ethernet model on sale @ $550 (Although it looks like this model is targeted for home use as opposed to business)

My Samsung printer is acting up. Can't print from an Apple device unless you installed the driver's before specific OS updates as apple blocks the install on newer versions. Doesn't always register replacement toners now etc.

I do have a harder time justifying the cost for how little I print anymore to justify replacing it and I'd probably just either resort to wait to print something at work or leverage a staples location or something. But you seem to print enough to still justify it. Of the 3 you linked in pretty much at the point I'd refuse to buy HP just due to their business practices anymore and I'd probably blindly pickup the brother printer considering how long the units have lasted in our office.

Mostly something more modern, not so much laser vs inkjet, since I mean this Brother inkjet has been fine for 14 years. I suppose it gets used enough to not get clogged/dry out. Laser just seemed like maybe the more economical choice, but toner doesn't exactly feel cheaper initially.

Like for example, this Brother I have basically has no driver support, the app is very old and doesn't feel like it really works with Windows 11 so scanning is iffy at best. I instead setup FTP server on my QNAP and point the printer to scan there, then copy the file off. It works, but just cumbersome.

But with these also only coming with "starter" toner that sounds awfully limited... I don't know if I really want to spend $1000 on a printer. The "super tank" style inkjets are probably more economical since it looks like those do come with full vials of ink? So for the ~$500, it should be good to print thousands of pages?

Yeah, the specs are stating 14K+ black, 4400 colour with what's included in the box (even though they're listed as "starter" :) ):

Mine is a slightly different design although it's still under the inkvestment banner.... mine has large capacity replaceable carts while this one appears to have refill bottles.

One of the things I'm impressed with is how long this thing seems to go without drying out. We don't print a ton of pages (under 150/month probably closer to 100) but it still kept chugging along for 16+ months on the carts it came with.

Worry-Free Printing — Epson EcoTank comes with enough ink to print upto 6,600 pages black/5,500 color3 for fewer out-of-ink frustrations. Eachreplacement ink bottle set is equivalent to about 80 cartridges4

And since Costco throws in 2 extra black, that would be 19,800 pages? A bunch of iffy user reviews though. Rtings picks the ET-3950 as the "best upper midrange inkjet", which I assume this ET-3958 is just Costco's version due to the extra ink.

I guess I'll keep an eye on these ink tank ones for deals instead, seems more cost efficient.

Mixed bag of reviews on that one. Sounds like there might be a 5 minute cleaning cycle that has to run when not used frequently before it will print. But it does seem like a good price. Canon appears to use pigment based ink that tends to clog more often? And has a cleaning cartridge ($20 for off-brand) along with a replaceable print head ($200-300 for off-brand). But that basically means its a disposable printer too if it does become clogged.

I feel like Epson has had these "tank" models the longest, but I could be wrong. HP seems to have a few models, Brother seems like they're sort of just starting into it now. They've had their other "Inkvestment" which is some sort of hybrid cartridge that fills the tank?

"Renewed" Epson goes for $319 which isn't too bad: https://epson.ca/Certified-ReNew/Al...tank-Printer---Certified-ReNew/p/C11CL43202-N

Looks like a decent deal. Not sure if the expected page prints from the included ink is listed somewhere (I couldn't find it) but the disclaimer for the 3 years states 150/mo so doing the math is 5400 pages.
