Comment Thread for Corsair HX620 PSU Review

Nice review SKYMTL! I was wondering when this PSU would be reviewed by our Canadian m8s @ HWC.com

I wonder if they plan to do some more powerful PSu tho. Something like 800W from Corsair with Quad PCI-E + 2 8Pin PCI-E connectors. That would kick some major @sses.

Wait a few months. They are on their way but they are not Seasonic-built.

It should also be mentioned that this is a NEW revision of this power supply with a different cap on the primary and the pair of 8-pin PCI-E connectors.

Looks like a great unit, but I really do wish that the vid card manufacturers and PSU manufacturers would get together on how to rate PSUs.

The three rails would concern me if I were purchasing a higher end card... not sure about other vid card manufacturers, but Sapphire is notorious for using total PSU amperage as "suggested" so even with a dedicated 18A rail you're never completely sure as Sapphire would call for something like a 40A 12 volt rail.

(I'm fairly certain that they high ball their requirements to ensure absolutely clean power so that they can cheap out on the VRMs.....).

What's the breakdown of the rails with regards to the PCIe plugs? Is it one on the first two dedicated with the third taking care of the rest?

Another quick note.....

I'm sure that the recent push for more efficient PSUs is also helping a fair bit with regards to clean power which won't stress VRMs too much.

Is that a fair guess to make in your mind SKYMTL?

First of all this is actually a SINGLE RAIL PSU. I have no diea what they say it has 3 distinct +12V rails but there are no OCP circuits to speak of...so single rail it is.

We have to remember that clean power does not necessarily equal efficient. Take the Mushkin HP580 I reviewed; it is reasonably efficient but the output quality is quite "dirty" with higher-than-average ripple.

But I will have to agree with you to a certain extent because units with rock-solid rails (like this Corsair) will be MUCH easier to digest for the VRMs on graphics cards and whatnot.

Been using that PSU for the last 5 month since my Hyper Type-R 580W psu died on me ...

its rock solid even with the Opty and the OverclockX1950XT video card the fan always spin @ lowest speed and rails are strong and rarely drop by more then 2-3%

great review man and strong product
