I was very tempted by the great price ($309) on the Corsair XMS2 6400 epp ddr2 at tigerdirect:

until I went over to newegg to look at some of the latest reviews:

Overall the ratings aren't bad, but lately, there are a pile of bad sticks, and sub-rating speeds and timings. what's up with that

I wouldn't rely on NewEgg reviews... nobody says what kind of experience these people have. I'd read reviews or read up on enthusiast forums, personally.

Edit: I should add that reviews should be read only from credible sites. I've read some RAM reviews from a few sites I won't mention, that made me want to throw up.

Don't get me wrong- newegg is certainly not my first source for harware reviews, but for ram-- I feel that I would almost rather trust reviews by joe consumer because they are the ones getting the real off-the-shelf product, while the big tech reviewers are getting hand picked sticks sent to them as samples.

Personally I'd choose Team xTreem ram over Corsair any day, but the xms2 stuff is pretty decent and does a good job.
