Hey all;
On the 23rd I requested a Step-up from Evga. I was #110 on the list. As of today, I am....#110!

Is this normal? Anyone here do a step-up before? Any chances I'll get the 285 before the next gen parts come out? :haha: I'm missing out on some PPD here...

I've had similar expericnces with the evga step-up. They seem to move in batches. You might be at the same position for a few days and then they release ~50 or 100 units, bumping you up 50 - 100 spaces that day.

I was #32 or something and then the same afternoon I was #28. This was on release day of the 285. My stepup went through in about 3 days (can't remember exactly).

I sent my card back with Xpresspost. Fast and the cheapest method. The turnaround was about a week. I sent it out on the Thursday and I got the card back the following Friday (I paid for the expedited shipping for the return from EVGA).

It was called an RMA warranty replacement on the declaration for customs so no duties.

I did a step-up from a 7900GTO to an 8800GTX. It went through in a few days, but I don't remember what number I was. The shipping was fairly quick and then I got my new card. I definitely would chose EVGA again just for the option to step-up.

You can thank me for that. I stepped up from a 6800 to a 7800gtx 512 a few years ago. They declared the full value of the card and I got hosed for $90 duty. I blew a gasket on the EVGA forums and Joe Darwin called me. They really had no Idea about customs and duty. I wondered how they ever shipped anything to Canada. Told them to declare it like this. They issued a statement on the website stating this is how they will be done from now on.

Thanks guys! I am thinking they must really be backordered or the part is popular because I have been at 110 almost two weeks now. I can step-up from a Core 216 to the 285 for less than $60, express shipping included so I think its worth it.

As long as they haven't changed anything it is based on the price you paid for the card. So in other words if you paid a lot it can help in the step up, but if you got a really good deal then it can hurt more if you step up.

Still I think that this is the best way to do it, your card retains its value.

I've always wondered what they do with the old cards, I mean do they use them for warranty replacements? Giveaways for contests and etc? Resale as refurbished? Seriously, I wonder what they do with the old cards.
