Gaming Headphones Showdown. What To Buy?

The USB version uses its own interface, but the 3.5 jack version relies on either an external card or the onboard audio no?
 
I have owned 2 pairs of 5.1 headset. Tritton AX pros and my current psyko kryptons. And the kryptons are by far the better head set.
If you don't mind the price, how heavy they are and take care of them (the are on the fragile side) they will last. And they have way better audio positioning than any true 5.1 headset that crams the audio drivers into the ear cups.

Not saying they are the best but you might want to look into them.
 
I've owned Psyko headphones since their first series release. The best Psyko set today is the Carbon series. I checked the Psyko site,and the Carbons are now $400. That's up $200 from last year. Way too expensive at the $400 price today.
 
NCIX had the Corsair 1500 on surprise sale a few days ago. I ordered a set but have yet to pay for them. $63.99 plus free express shipping.
Can't be beat. Now to just pay for the damn item lol.
 
Another vote for 2.0 headsets. Good sound staging is way more important than how many drivers are in the headphone.
 
I was in a similar situation in the fall (had a thread about it). In the end good 2.0 sound, comfort and a built in mic were my priorities (at a <$100 all in price point)...which lead to me to the siberia v2 (analog version for me) that was on sale for $59.99 at the time. I love them for my general uses (mix now of gaming and music). That said I had a few posts by AkG (and a few PM), and he has reviewed many headsets. From his info, if you are after gaming only and want better surround sound, go for the Cooler Master Sirus. Where most headsets claim 5.1/7.1 it is just one speaker per side and the surround is all virtual. The CM Sirus actually has multiple speakers in each side to give more true surround.

I've owned almost EVERY set of analog surround headphones built in the last 10 years. For gaming,and best bang for your buck,take a look at Roccat. Roccat Kave Solid 5.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset at Memory Express These headphones provide a super 5.1 surround,that pinpoint positional sounds etc. etc. In my opinion,the Kaves are the best you can buy in the $100 price range. To find ANYTHING better,you have to go to Tiamat,or Psyko. Analog surround is the ONLY way to go.
