General question(s) on Ethernet crimping / cables

Not quite as clean as I'd like. I also had to use some longer cables for the two end ports as the 1' ones were just shy of long enough to go corner to corner in order to keep the front/back panel numbers in sync. I'll probably take a fit and order a few 1.5' ones, although ideally I'd like to find a set with both 1.5' and .5' so that I could clean up the front panels a bit as well. (Probably a good idea to just cut the lengths I need/want and make them myself..... :)

I need more cables!!!! :) (5 1.5' cables will probably be enough if I don't bother trying to get some short .5 ones as well)

Still pretty messy, hopefully a fresh batch of cables will help clean it up a bit.

Back access still with lot's of space left over.

Final resting spot, although I'll have to tackle the mess going into it in the AM.

Aaaaaah... now I get what you were saying about the back to front connections.

Basically trying to turn the rack of individual networking components into a singular unit along the lines of a consumer router with port access on the back and traffic indication lights on the front.

I'm not convinced it looks as clean as I was expecting, but it's functional for now, and a few 1.5' cables will let me clean it up a bit more.... it's possible a cable comb for the switch cables will help clean up the look.

edit: Might end up that just tying the cables together with velcro straps will satisfy my desire to clean things up....

Generally the switch should sit right above the patch panel, then the super short cables should be sufficient (10cm?).

Unfortunately not possible with the current setup for the switch shelf, but I'm already looking into switching the 3D printed ones out for internally mounted metal angle brackets which would allow me to move the keystone panel up (or move the switch down).

I was going to ask if any of the cables need/should be labeled but it seems they are all mostly mapped 1 to 1 the entire way?

Yes, and the ones that aren't 1 to 1 are colour coded and labelled on the rear keystone panel. (like the 10G ports, and the 3 non-poe CGM ports.

You might get a cleaner look using a brush passthrough instead of keystone. It will help eat up some of the slack on the outside since you can pull them tight. There are 3d printable variants out there where you print the brushes in TPU.
