I know we already have another thread talking about AI sucking up all the DRAM and NAND chips. GN did a bit deeper dive in the situation, especially mentioned how the 3 big / only DRAM / NAND mfgs are running a racket (previously convicted too). Not only did he looked at RAM, he also looked at SSD prices and predict GPU will be next.

I used to think computing was the ones hobby I had left that wasn't going through the roof with expenses. (Besides GPU's) but it seems everything has gone nuts. I use some AI stuff to help work through problems but I dont think its as big a game changer as we are being sold for sure. I just worry what happens if this all suddenly crashes. Hopefully we can pick up some hardware on the cheap, if that happens anytime soon.

It has been great to have people like GN break down WTF is going on these days.

well get skynet before this bubble pops unfortunately. gamers/diy are gettting shafted with Lucile from the Walking Dead (Negans Barbwire Bat) and it wont stop going forward gpus will be getting weaker and weaker as all hardware will be forced into HPC/Ai and well just keep getting software gimmicks to do the heavy lifting.

Yeah I guess that's one way to look at it... we will all be pushed to streaming subscription model for gaming as hardware to do it yourself either won't exist or will be too expensive.

The amount of resources "AI" is consuming though doesn't seem worthwhile for the outputs. I don't think it's solved any world problems, just caused many more.

I hope you're wrong for all our sakes. But I remain doubtful that this is the sad future.

only saying this as iv noticed every generation since the 3000 series we been getting more and more software Ai tricks to help make up for the lack of hardware innovations, i honestly hope im wrong as well but even amd who used to be the one introducing tech that mattered like Mantle,RPM (Rapid Packed Math) has jumped on the Ai Bandwagon which means even they are reading the room.

I have been looking at Traxxas and Arrma lately lol.

This hobby is not a hobby anymore.
I just got into rc crawlers. Got two 1/24 to start out with. But you can change all kinds of parts reminds me of pc building. Probably going to get a 1/10 next year. Build some stuff to climb in the back yard. Idk pc parts prices have turned me off building for now.
