the only thing I use that is google is my spam email accounts for searching I use duckduckgo, there are probably other sites out there but I don't like being tracked lik e google analytics .
for a webbrowser beides firefox I use iron which is chrome based
 
Heh... what are the chances that the "malicious software" being downloaded were from rogue google ads hosted by google itself?

edit: According to the ROG site (site feedback threads) it was a false positive on google's part, and they don't run any ads so it wouldn't have been a rogue Google ad. :)
