GTX 480: To SLI Or Not To SLI, That Is The Question?

I got a 1200w TP bring it Nvidia :thumb:

I would think those numbers are under maximum load which wouldn't be bad I can't see it drawing that much idle.

Well if you have the extra cash to buy 2 than why not. My friend's computer is similar to yours with a single GTX 480. Playing games on a 24" monitor is pretty awesome. It can run every game except Metro 2033 maxed with smooth frames. More demanding games are coming though. Heaven benchmark a single 480 isn't powerful enough if you want to play with maxed eye candy. So yes even at the "low" :bleh: resolution of 1080P-1200P there will be a benefit of going SLI. It just means you can play EVERYTHING maxed on all games.

In what slot do I put my second GTX 480 if I get one. I currently have the Asus Rampage II Extreme motherboard. Do I put it in the second PCIe 2.0 x16 slot (blue) or in the third PCIe 2.0 x16 slot (white)?

In the blue slots. Check your manual, but the blue ones should be the x16 slots. The white one is a x8.

Edit: Ninja'd.

Let em breathe.....top slot then a vacant slot in between em...then your second Card......the x8 Bandwidh vs x16 is not a big deal at all....better off to leave a space for "Air".......I've tested both arrangements on an Evga X58 vanilla Board and the difference was insignificant.......Classy 759 Board on the other hand is X16 everywhere in any config :punk:

Opps, I should have looked at my case. I can only place the second GTX 480 card in the second slot. If I placed the second GTX 480 in the third PCIe slot, the card would not be able to vent out of the case.

^^^^ Must be a small Case??? Be warned..SLi 480's are best with a Case with great Air Flow......so you have a 3 Slot PCI-E Mobo but not a Case capable of handling it?.......get a new Case first...
