GTX480 Vs. HD5870 VaporX

Well Budget is no issue here, but I'm tring to say away fro the 5970.
Now all I see is people raging over the power usage and Operating temperature issue.
is this complete overblown? (there are some card that will run at hight temps also)

I suppose interms of features/ "furure proofing" I can say 480 tops?
and 5870 for stability, longevity and efficency?

Well in most benchmarks the 5970 is faster but it is also $200 more. So if you are looking at spending more then you might as well get dual GTX 470's and supremely beat the 5970. Right NOW I think the 5970 is the worst buy as it is too expensive and far too hard to find and you can get 2 cards that beat it for the same price. Plus with nvidia you get physx and 3D that works.

I would by far go with the 480 or a 5870 if it was only $50.

Well the GTX 480 will be more noisy and hotter than the 5870 but your case will keep the GPU's cool enough. They are meant to be hot. Plus you get lifetime warranty if you buy from brands like EVGA and they have way better customer service than anything ATI has. The closest they have is XFX but they are not as good as they used to be. So if you want the best bang for your buck and it is only $50 more than go for the GTX 480. If having the quietest computer is of high priority then go for the 5870.

The GTX 480 is king when it comes to minimum frames per second and that is what matters most.

I see... So the high temp should be no issue with a fan cooling, and I suppose it doesn't really matter since they are designed to run at that temp anyways
I was just afrad I might have gotten something thats unstable.

and also the Driver just needs time to improve I suppose

I was looking into the vapor x and the powercolour pcs+ 5870, the pcs seemed to have better heat and sound and frames than the vaporx, and canada computers has them for 429. Just a idea.

From what I read, those vapor X is not using the reference card and if you are into overclocking there will be no software voltage controls(correct me if i am wrong), and that's why i pick the non vapor x one. If I were you I will get the GTX480, forget about 5970 just not worth the money right now
