Yes, this is an Intel vs AMD thread.. but without the 100 page long arguments.

I myself prefer AMD, not because they're better than Intel or worse than Intel, but because I'm just into cheap CPU's

Here I will list my personal reasons why I like both Intel and AMD, feel free to contribute to help future members of HWC decide on what they want.

I will start with Intel:
- All-round powerful Processors
- Great when it comes to video editing
- Slightly higher performance in gaming over AMD
- Quite expensive if you want a good one
- Hyperthreading unk:

And here's AMD:
- Great for multi-tasking (if you have a 6/8 core CPU)
- Cheap and cheerful
- Great CPUs for budget builds
- More than capable for gaming

Here is why we have so many arguments on the forums over AMD / Intel:

AMD FX-8350 is the best you can get

In this thread I'm hoping to extinguish any hate between AMD and intel.. hopefully we can make a better community and save the arguments!

I used to be a die-hard AMD boy, all the way back to the original Athlon days, and I even still have a 1055T in my son's rig. I also went out and bought and played with an 8350 for a few days.

Then I went out and bought a Z77 platform and a 3570K. And, while it may not have been noticeably faster than the 8350 at anything, when I noticed the drastically lower heat production, I was sold through and through, and wondered what I had been waiting for all this time.

I have both rigs (my son's and mine) in the new computer room in my house. I run mine 24/7 and fold on it. It stays nice and cool I tried running the boy's rig (with the 1055T) and folding on it, but the room just gets waaay to hot. That thing pumps out the heat (OC'd to 3.7). I now keep the boy's computer OFF when he's not on it, and it doesn't fold anymore. Pity, really. That 1055T got some good numbers, it just wasn't worth the heat output.

Oh, and Intel's RST kicks ASS! When I saw how quickly my rig booted into windows for the first time using the Z77 platform, my jaw dropped.

Anyway, I believe that AMD now has the performance to match Intel, more or less (with the 8350, at least), especially for the price you pay. What they really have to work on now is power consumption (which will bring down heat output). They seem to have the architecture (with Vishera) down pat, now they could use a die shrink.

Yeah, I got my 1100T OC'd to 4.4 with a Antel Kuhler H20 920 .. man, I leave that thing on for 6 hours folding and my room is like 35c haha, its okay if you have a naturally cold room

I believe, at the end of day that Intel isn't better than AMD and AMD isn't better than intel, they both do the same thing really.. They both process stuff, they both play games,etc.. just depends on how much time you have on your hands lol

I like AMD because of the upgrade paths I was able to take from AM2 all the way up to AM3 without spending huge coin every time I changed hardware. With CPU's being able to work in different sockets I was able to upgrade either my mobo or CPU whenever I found a good deal or could afford it. I never "had" to buy both when I wanted to change something.

When I bought my M5A97 originally, I was running an original Phenom I quad core. Then I put in a Phenom II Quad Core, a Phenom II Hex Core, and finally a Vishera 8350. Add in an 8150, and that's four processor generations, so far.

EDIT: Wait, actually the original Phenom's weren't compatible with AM3 platforms. So, make that three generations.

I went from a 5000+ X2 Black Edition, to Phenom 9950 on a Gigabyte AM2+ mobo. That board cooked on me so then I bought an Asus M3A79T Deluxe (also AM2+). After that I upgraded to the new Phenom II 940 when it was released, then to a Phenom II 1100T. Eventually I found a good deal here at HWC on a Crosshair V and ran the 1100T in that for a while. Then the upgrade bug bit again so I went for an 8350 and lived happily ever after. The end. :haha:

I'm thinking my next upgrade with be to IB-E, and a Rampage V Extreme...I'm just waiting for those chips to come out...

I know this is a thread that might be problematic, but for my part I try as much as I can to encourage the small boy; in this case, AMD. In my case, it sort of helps that I am not satisfied by their offerings compared to what I already have, that way it keeps me from wanting to upgrade specially since I am still satisfied by the performance of my Phenom II.

But, I am also realist and I know that if I were to upgrade now, the only worthwhile solution would be to go Intel, maybe in 1 or most likely 2 generations, it will be different (and either way, by then such an upgrade would make a lot more sense).
