MacBook Neo

Dave2D review (more of an appearance type review) and he would pay 50% more to get a refurb M4 MacBook Air with 16GB of memory. Looking at Mac website, a refurb M4 Air 16GB + 256GB storage is $1040 before tax. That's 25% more than the new MacBook Air. The 512GB version is $1180 which is 50% more money for double the storage.

Just looking at my MacBook Air M3 with 24GB of RAM, with a 8 or 9 FF tabs open, background stuff like Zscaler, Team, Slack, and other stuff. I'm already up to 16.5GB of RAM consumed under office condition.
keep in mind that an OS will use system memory to the level of best optimization. until the Neo has seen real world use we don't know how good or bad it'll be for office work.

I think it should be OK. For somebody who lives in a terminal, uses web-based apps or Office Apps (without million-row excel docs) - this should suffice. This is a good entry for students and IT folks that use terminal and VPN to access other end-points most of the time.

Everything is in the cloud anyways these days... Scary but that's the reality with (admins) live in.

For a reviewer and for most people on here…more ram/storage will make it worth it. For the actual target market of this, I don’t think they will care.

I realistically think most people that buy this will be of the following thought process…I want a MacBook. This one looks nice and is the cheapest. Proceed to checkout.

And... to be fair it will likely run fine for the majority of what those users are looking to do on their laptop.

For example, my daughter has a more powerful desktop PC at the ready but pretty much all her school work these days (grade 11) is accomplished using her several year old Chromebook and iPad. A Neo I would think would slot nicely into that role for a lot of people.

Apple probably has the best product support out there as well so that plays a massive role in customer base. I got to a point where I'd rather overpay and bring it in for repair and be done with it the same day.

I need tech that a) holds all day battery for things that I do and b) has excellent tech support that I can bring in to get it repaired right away. Obviously I pay for apple care+ .

Also, Time machine is amazing for backups and restores - I tested it and "hot damn!".

I've never had to use Apple support while I had iPad's and iPhone's...but, being I work for a company that is an authorized service center for Lenovo products, I've never had issues with support for anything.

As I grow older and I start valuing my time more and more - I started to appreciate Apple more. Not just because I can afford it - but because things tend to work and last longer.

I am a geek and I have a ton of hardware, I have switched to Apple in the past two years since their M-series CPUs. I have no regrets, I am genuinely impressed.

I still run a linux workstation, but for mobile and on the go - that's Apple for me.
