I'm curious if anyone knows the difference between the MSI Z97 'Gaming' 5/7 series and the 'Gaming' GD-65/G45? At a glance, they appear to be exactly the same chipset, features, etc. The only difference is that they made two different board designs? One with the new design, and one identical to the Z87 design.

The Z97 should support the features of the new chips. Hopefully.

Yes, but they're ALL Z97 chipsets.

I'll take a look at the comparison on Newegg as well when I get home. It just seems odd to release multiple boards that are almost exactly the same except for looks, in to a market that's already awash with options.

Z97-7 has two more USB 3.0 ports but two less USb 2.0 ports. Also ditches the VGA/DVI for just two HDMI ports (for Intel IGP). GD65 also has no m.2 SSD AFAIK only mSATA
