need some help finding wall mounts for my Dell U3415w's

hey guys...I'm terrible with maths and wonder if anyone could help me figure out how long the arms on an articulating mount need to be and how far apart they have to be installed from each other to let me stack my two U3415w on top of each other and allow me to rotate them to portrait without banking / knocking into each other?
If they're the same mount for both arms, shouldn't you just be able to take the center (or bottom) edge of the vesa mount and measure the distance to the edge of the monitor, then if the mounts are in the center of the monitor, double that value, add a small amount for gap then set the second mount at that height?

If the vesa mount isn't quite center, you'd do the same thing, but figure out if you needed to add the upper half or bottom half depending on which monitor you're measuring from.

Kind of like this (assuming I understand what you're trying to do);

If you're planning on spinning them without moving the arms up or down you're going to need a much bigger gap as the monitor's will be at their widest when spinning them at the diagonal. With rotation you'll need to measure from the center of the vesa mount to the furthest diagonal edge of the monitor. As you'll only be spinning one at a time you should be good to measure just one and not add the two monitors diagonal value together.

actually...I realize unless I can find a wall mount that has height adjustable articulating arms that has a true full motion head with tilt / swivel and rotate, my idea won't work. I have not seen any of these with height adjustable articulating arms. >,<

The ergotech freedom is adjustable height-wise, but you'll change your distance or angle or such when adjusting the height. If you're looking for one that's easily adjustable at the connection point to the wall or mount stand, I don't think any are on the market as everyone uses the arms to adjust height.

they do exist...but not sure if there is a simple way to describe the function. 'spring-assisted jointed arm' is what StarTech calls theirs. alas...not enough rotation..

That's vertical movement at the arm, not the mount though. No different than the ergotech or most other mounts as far as I can tell, most of which can rotate the 90 degrees to go to portrait mode (to either direction allowing 180 degrees of rotation)

Edit: the one you linked also allows rotation on the screen's display axis of 180 degrees. I think you're either not describing what you want very well or misreading the specs.

Edit 2: the Ergotech specs say it allows full 360 rotation, so it should spin as as long as you've got the cable slack to handle it.

this has pan and tilt but no rotate for transitioning from landscape to portrait.

and I suspect we're thinking of different things when I said vertical movement as desk mounted arms can have both post and spring assisted, but I don't know if any of the have adjustment into the negative like the model above ad they smack into the desktop while a wall mounted unit would not.

I wonder if this could fix that problem...

though I'd prefer something that secures to the wall that the mount could then be put on...but something like that would be hella expensive in comparison.
