New Gaming Rig

Just watched the corsair obsidian review and it really piqued my interest. I doubt anyone has used the case yet but if you've used a case or have looked into a case based around watercooling I'd like to know your opinion. The case is massive so it should be good for tthe next generatin of gpu's if not more. Also is water cooling a big improvement over air cooling? I'm going to look into it tomorrow. As of now I know it is the next step after air cooling, but is the price worth it? Also in regards to the processor I'm going to get an i7 or i5 because I want the processor to last me a while without bottleknecking the cards I get in the future, or at least not as much bottleknecking.

Core i5 seems to have no future past this, but it gives alot of performance, in terms of upgrading it may possibly be a bit harder.
The price / performance ratio seems to be damn good, so i may jump for that with the i5 750 .
No clue on water cooling except it seems to be extremely expensive and isn't everyones cup of coffee.

Yeah just finished reading a few small articles on wc and the obsidian. I'm going to stick with the 840. I like the buttons on the top, and for some reason the "hidden" usb, mic, firewire, etc ports looks awesome to me.

Unless you have air conditioning, you wont get to much more performance from watercooling. Unless youre planning to do some serious overclocking, watercooling isnt worth it. Im not an expert, but I got a gaming computer in july, with the Thermaltake Ultra-120 and the cpu is plenty cool. The i7 seems plenty powerful for gaming and never goes above 30% load and about 50C. There are closed circuit WC loops for about 100$ but reviews I've read say they're about the same as a 100$ AC heatsink. I find the GPU is where the heat is. But even that can be fixed by turning up the fan.

Thanks for the last reply, looked into the 120 and now I'm adding that to the parts list.

For your GPU, at least for me it gets HOT playing demanding games like crysis unless you crank up your fans. this isnt a problem, but its a noisy fan. If your worried about noise, you may want to consider the MSI 275. Its a little pricey, but has better cooling and is a little quiter.

The card seems great, but I'd rather a lifetime warranty becuase I won't be getting a new graphics card for a while as I'm going to get another card for sli later. Also is the MSI overclocking better than EVGA or XFX overclocking? Another also do EVGA motherboards have lifetime warranty?

Sorry for bringing this thread back up. I don't need answers to my last questions but I would like to know if its better to get an internal hard drive over an external. I'm thinking of getting a 1tb wd external hard drive soon and using that for this pc and also to transfer over all my games and saves etc from my old pc.

Unless you will be transferring large amounts of files after you finish with your old PC, I think an internal is just more convenient. Just pop the new drive in, copy what you need, pop it out and hook it up to the new rig. Plus you won't be stuck with USB transfer speeds.
