NVIDIA GTX 980 SLI Review (Comment Thread)

I suspect the recent Canadian price creep on the 9XX cards will drive a lot more folks to consider SLI on their 7XX cards.

9XX cards were amazing value at MSRP... they start to lose their luster when etailers are slapping on a $50 - $80 premium on top of that.

The issue seems to be supply and demand again. But that's the usual excuse....

This!

I think I will offload my 290X with EK blocks in mid December and grab either 2 x EVGA GTX 980 Classifieds or 2 x GTX 980Tis (if they come out) in Florida come Christmas time.

I wonder how Nvidia feels about lost sales when their primary selling point (value) is being undercut by their retail partners?

Im still waiting on buying mine, because I cant find one in stock.

Looks like a lot of the e-tailers are starting to creep prices up too since they cant seem to keep stock. The MSI 970 and 980 Twin Frozr Ive been eyeing has gone up $10 and 15$ respectively since release date, and I still havnt managed to get to them in time with auto-notify. NCIX is also about $20 higher then newegg card for card...which I just dont understand at all...

Reminds me of the AMD days last year. Lots of "oohs" and "ahhs" but once they hit market and the retailers bumped the prices they wernt nearly as good a value. Looks like I might be keeping this 670 for a bit longer...sigh

I doubt you will see a Ti moniker for the 980 at least until next year. That's usually reserved for when AMD introduces a new gen card which doesn't look like that will happen till 2015.

I did the same thing last week.

Was wondering about a possible VRAM bottleneck in the future but thought I might as well get another 780 ti (on sale) for gaming at 1600p and wait and see what happens.

The 980's are amazing cards, just a shame about the markup.

I really appreciate this review.

Just ordered another 780 ti.
