Hi y'all. I haven't posted a build on here in a while, 2 kids and going down to one income has that effect on hobbies I suppose. Since then I crashed my motorbike so I now have a bit more time on my hands and PC building seems less hazardous to my health.:
funky:
I am about to shake up my builds a bit to make some money back on some parts I bought to build a buddy a PC before he changed his mind and got a ps4 (I am sure we have all had that buddy at some point).
So before I downgrade and retire this PC into "family desktop" status I thought I would post up the build as it was a fun project. Basically I tried to build the best PC I could for as close to free as possible. I almost succeeded but my gtx570 died and I had to splurge to get anything worth buying. Total build and cost as follows:
CPU - Xeon x3430 (@3GHz/3.5 turbo) - $10.25
Mobo - Intel PH55PJ - $30 (in bundle with i5-650 and GTX570)
GPU - GTX770 - $110
CPU cooler - Super Dooper PANTIUM HOGHER - $15
SSD - intel 64gb - $30 (8 years ago at least, kinda free really)
HDD spare 1tb seagate - 60 new I guess
case - dumpster dive special - free
fans - salvaged from other cases
psu - hx620 - spare from a while back but I guess it was 140 new
So you could value that in different ways but it was less than 150 bucks including the 110 I paid for the 770 for all the parts I didn't have sitting around for years.
It plays games at 1080p no problem, lots of them at high settings, CPU doesn't go over 70C, GPU goes to about 85 but it does that in any case it's been in (gigabyte seems to let it get there no matter what, fans just ramp down in a better case). cinebench @365 (GL 68fps) uni heaven and valley avg around 90fps.
Just waiting on parts to put this into a better case (thermaltake h15) and swap in a 256GB samsung 840 SSD along with 2 existing storade drives and an HD 6450 gpu (best I can find, blech) to use as the family PC (photos, internet, WP, streaming videos, minecraft etc) with my antec TP550 psu.
I had my fun, it was supposed to be a garbage pc "just to play netflix on" in the shop, you know how it goes.
