[PROJECT:] Upgrading the H2O-220 :: 120.4 + 120.2 Radiators!

Well, this is my first work log on HWC so I hope it turns out okay! ​

Well, I finally decided to upgrade my Swiftech H2O-220 water cooling kit to something even better yet. Wait... that sentence - “something even better yet” makes it sound like I said the H2O-220 is a worthwhile product. Well in my experience, it actually is a decent kit, for me at least. For a first time water cooler, like I was, I was able to easily install it, without any problems and it went perfectly fine. The reason I say that this simple kit is decent is that surprisingly, the H2O-220 kept my Q9550 E0 at <65C @ 4GH full load, this also includes the Rampage Extreme's NB being cooled as well. However, the Q9550 went through a hell of a long lapping process. I now want to lower those temps even further, and throw in my 4870X2 into the equation.

I did choose a fair amount of Swiftech products because they are relatively cheap in price, and worth their money in performance. They may not the best but they do get the job done.​

This stuff came in last Friday (October 17th, 2009). Sorry for being so slow with the pictures...

However PPC's had this at my door fairly quick. Still costed me $7.00 at my door for brokerage fees... Still, beats that time UPS charged me more for duties than the actual product.

And what do we have inside this parcel? Well we have -->

A Koolance 4870X2 water block! (I have heard these things are really poorly made... *sigh*)


Up next was a really basic small black box -->

However, on one side we see "Swiftech APOGEE(tm) XT", and some babbling on what is included. Which I shows later on.

Other than some fittings and hose clamps this was it. My other order is coming from NCIX, which should be a rather large box, and one more thing from Dazmodes store,The EK D5 X-TOP.

Anywho, this is how the 487X2 was packed. (Why does Koolance not put a "0" in the name???)

Some instructions, thermal grease, and thermal pads (not pre-cut...)

The actual block itself. It looks pretty solid, but it is the inside I have heard bad things of... I don't care to look, maybe if I don't believe in what I hear they are not true! :bleh:

Update for November 1/09

This stuff came in some time last week. Have been quite busy latly so I wasn't able to update this thread in a while (not like anyone really cares though)

A friend of mine bought the MCP655(vairable) and didn't even open it, he bough something else (the name escapes me) and gave me his 655. So I bought the EK top

Front 120.2 Rad installed

I plan on getting some of that duct packing stuff (in black) to fill in around it so no air goes past it. That foam like stuff.

Haha, thanks for being the first poster lol... I don't think many people really give a hoot about this build, but can I blame them? It really isn't that exciting :sad: However, the build log will go on!

I think everyone has their own different touch to a rig when they build it. Some people go origami with their cabling, some people just arrange it to the side. Plus, I like large blocks of copper.

Are you going to mount that 120.4 in the drive bays? Is there even enough room to do that in the 1200?
