For gaming, which one should be better?

it depends on the game. if its single or dual threaded, the bigger cache will have an advance, and the oc's you can do with the duallie as well.

if it sees 4 cores, then the quad.

That's the point, I don't know how much games support the 4 threads, and if the new games will go that direction..

there's a few that do. in a couple years more will as well. now? it wouldn't be a selling point for me if budget was tight or folding was not in the equation, sir

with sky high clocks im thinking not really

most games don't go far beyond using two cores. I'd hit the E8600 more then the Q8300

The E8600 is a very nice CPU, I had one and now my son use it. With proper cooling you can easily hit a 4.0 Ghz OC.

With proper cooling you can hit 4.5 or 4.6 depending on your equipment.
