discussion Question about my temps

Hi guys,

My idle temps are 53/51 max
My load temps are 73/71 max

They seem to really depend on the ambient temp...

Right now, with ~20 ambient temp, the idle temps are 47/46, and load temps are 68/65.

Are they OK, and do they seem to be about what I should be getting?

Also, is a few degrees different between the cores normal? Should I remount the HSF?

I'm not comfortable with anything over 60c for load temps, but that's a decision you'll have to make for yourself.

Differences between cores is perfectly normal, and 2c is actually pretty damn good!!

Seems high to me, but perhaps my system just tends to run cooler. totally different set up.

My idles usually sit at about 30deg with my full load on Prime95 over night sitting in the low 40s.

your numbers look more like GPU temp readings not a CPU.

What program are you using to measure your temps?

Well, I'm not super comfortable with these temps; but I thought that it should be OK as long as it's a bit below the threshold temp (was it 85 for these chips?).

Differences between cores is perfectly normal, and 2c is actually pretty damn good!!

What program are you using to measure your temps?

I used TAT to push the chip to those temps, and also to measure the temps. AFAIK, TAT makes the chips hotter than Orthos/Prime does.

Actually pushing an E6300 to 3.5 is very good, with only 1.45V. I don't know if your temps are right on track though - since I don't trust TAT. Use Coretemp instead. If you really want to see some CPU being pushed to its limits temp-wise, try OCCT...

Does are some pretty good clocks you have going on.
For what I read about that CPU, everything is safe as long as you don't exceed 70C

- great oc
- once you start going over 70, I believe the safety mechanisms start to kick in since you are pushing close to the 85 Celsius max. I believe you can check for throttling with a program like Everest, if you have it
- TAT is for mobile processors, it is unreliable for our CPUs. Coretemp was mentioned as a good alternative, and auto-logs to a txt file.
- Speedfan is also a good program, but may read a different temperature than Coretemp (~15 less) which you adjust for in the program's config section. It can also read your HDD SMART info, so you can check on them once in a while to get a heads-up as to whether or not there may be problems with them.

Would there be any reason other than something on my board being weird as to why I cant use:

Coretemp, SisSoftware Sandra's Monitoring, Speedfan, They all make my computer buzz for 1second then do a hard lock. The only thing I can use to monitor my temps is ITE Smart Guardian, and Everest.

Thanks, I'll give OCCT a go. As for TAT, so far it seems to be in sync with CoreTemp...but I think I'll stick with CoreTemp as it can be minimized to the tray.

Thanks man. If it exceeds 70C, what happens? Throttling? Because I don't seem to recall the CPU throttling...or maybe it's because it hasn't been over 70 for extended periods...

Thanks. About Speedfan, I've tried it before and it messed up my temp readings and clock frequency. So I don't think I'll use Speedfan again.

@Keir : You have a DFI board? If so, just use SmartGuardian.

Nice OC but personally Id be careful with sustained 70oc temps. The cpu may not fully "protect" itself by throttling down. BTW have you considered the thermalright ultra extreme. I just switched my sythe ninja out for one...oh man does it make a huge difference in load temps at high oc's (14oc in my case!). They were selling them at Dc for $~49-and you can price match at NCIX:biggrin:.
