Rants etc.....

A friend who is a contractor was looking at trading in his Ram 3500. When he looked at new truck prices, he was floored, 120-150g to replace his truck pretty much
COVID really messed up the market. Supply shortage caused mfg to focus on top trim only (sound familiar with GPU now). Now that they tasted the fat margin on top trims, they ain't moving back down. Another possible issue is people buying trucks as lifestyle / flex vehicles instead of work. Single cab went the way of the Dodo bird. Leather seats that wouldn't stand up to rough environment. And oh god putting ads on your entertainment screen.

RHD in LHD is a problem with left turns since you can't really see the traffic coming your way. That and drivethrus.

The vehicle that was wrecked was a 2004 with 189,000km. A lot of vehicle listings I have looked at in the 15-20 range might be newer but they are like 220,000-240,000km (some lower but a lot of them in that range) and with unknown maintenance histories unless everything was done at a dealer. Make it hard to swallow the idea of a car payment again on something even even higher milage than where I was.

Two odd standouts that I'm seriously considering at this point are RHD because the milage is so low... 2004 less than 50,000km and an 2008 with less than 100,000km. I can get a lot of extra years out of vehicle with that low of milage on them... And a fraction of the price of things I'm otherwise looking at but resorting to RHD in a LHD country. (Doesn't bother me to drive them here)

There is one more at a local dealer I'll look at over the weekend with the wife and kids with me and realistically it is the most practical of everything I have looked at but definitely not the cheapest, but most practical and still not miled out.
Check insurance rates before you consider it too much. I have heard (no experience) that RHD can be a lot more expensive to insure in some provinces.

Very true, I have another friend whose dad imports vehicles from all over the world, mainly Unimogs from Europe, but he also has a few RHD mini trucks, which I think are super cool. When we asked our broker, she told us our payment would be high, end of that idea lol

The wife and I have put away 30k, give or take a couple of G's for our next car, don't want any monthly payment or higher insurance. which limits us to eco-boxes, but we don't like putting money into things that just cost money and end up in the junkyard, worthless.

When he looked at new truck prices, he was floored, 120-150g to replace his truck pretty much, he is keeping his truck and driving it into the ground, I dont blame him. Yes, he needs it for work, builds custom homes on the islands in Muskoka. Vehicle prices are out of this world; most people I know can't afford to buy anything new.
We lease everything now...

In business, most of the time, that is the better move since you can write it off. He is a young guy with an old-school mindset. He doesn't think it's ok to have monthly payments, "if you can't afford it, you don't buy it" kind of guy, I mentioned leasing to him, it's a non-starter for him, he says, because he uses his truck for personal( I don't think it matters much ), he doesn't like paying interest. He buys everything outright. house/vehicles/boat/barge/land, he has done very well for himself and is only 33 years old. He really doesn't need a new truck, just wanted a new toy, I think, until he saw the prices

More issues with my Alienware 34" Gysnc monitor.

Now for some reason the "DP Input" prompt/pop-up keeps periodically popping up in the center of the screen.

Not sure if it's a driver issue or what, but this thing has been more trouble than any monitor I've ever had.

2018 model? Mine has a bunch of oddities too, largely seemed related to static from my chair, but even in the summer months when that isn't an issue, it still behaves odd. It's over on my work laptop now, but it tends to get stuck in "sleep" too (flashing blue light) and never wakes until I unplug the power and let it sit for a few mins.

I think so. Bought in 2023 the AW3423DW model.

Mine had the same issue with sleep. Had to RMA two of them and fight it out with Dell to get the 2nd one replaced. Stopped having the issue.

The popup is new, it's not as annoying as the sleep mode issue, but it's still an annoyance. I'm hoping it's a Nvidia driver or dell driver issue. I'll tinker, but it's definitely annoying. Likely the last Dell product I buy. They've got some good monitor deals periodically (especially when coupled with AMEX), but I shouldn't have 2/3 monitors with issues.

we had a used Equinox 2019 from a dealer in Alberta didnt come with block heater, wasnt too bad $35k looked brand new replaced an absolute junker it died in the driveway had to get it towed. we went to a Chrysler dealer in town wife fell in love with a white Buick Enclave (2024) it was much bigger then the Equinox and had far more features she loves the 360 cam black magic. all in $110g that was with the Premium+ Care Package i didnt find out till after everything was said and done $680 a month then they said we made a mistake and thought youd be approved for the Ceramic coating with the initial quote and applied it nope so i paid a extra $4000 outa my pocket to cover that, she wants a Tahoe at the 5 yr mark.

I'm wondering if this the scam on eBay charge whatever you want tin shipping and they can't deduct from that portion of the sale? Cause I don't think something like this should cost $279.42 that seems extremely insane pricing.
