Should the beaver be replaced as Canada's national symbol? - Outrageous!!!

The senator is a Conservative. I'm assuming her actual goal is to eliminate the Beaver because of the dirty euphemism associated with that word.

That would explain her weak-ass argument. A lot of biologists would argue about that 'dentally defective' quip. It's an animal that can log trees and create massive dams in order to create its own ecosystem. If that isn't the definition of 'industrious,' I don't know what is.

On the other hand, Polar Bears will eat you if they get the chance; that's a 'tyrant' in my books.

Have you ever seen a pissed off beaver, holy crap get out of the way those little guys are ferocious. Also, aren't they quite the family based mammal whereas polar bears go and do whatever they want, only getting together to mate?

My friend's 6 year old lab went for a swim near a beaver dam and got totally mauled. It needed facial reconstruction surgery after that and barely made it out alive.

Raccoon is the way to go.

Actually, they could turn it into a sewer rat I would not give a damn.

If I was to have any pride being part of Canada, It would now be at an abysmal level... So at this point, I don't care.

I have a lot of pride for Canada. Changing the national animal is one thing that doesn't really matter to me. Why would they change it to begin with is something I can't figure out.

The Conservatives are on a branding binge right now. From putting "royal" back in the military, the Queen's at embassies, putting "Harper Government" in official communications, its no wonder that other Conservatives are taking this opportunity to brand further.

Normally I wouldn't give a crap, but this is supposed to be a time of austerity and penny-pinching. There is a better time for this stuff.

If it was the other way around and it was the polar bear, and the government would want to change the symbol to a beaver, then peoples' identities would be shattered as well; 'Oh it's a "corporatist" symbol' or some other nonsense. The internationally recognized symbol of Canada is the red maple leaf, not the beaver - what do you put on your backpack?
