@sswilson - Only the north (primary) function of any key is shine-through. So the secondary num functions and the down facing 'fn' functions are all just printed on. Image below for reference.

I see. that's different from my corsair(s). The keycaps on those appear to be doubleshot translucent on both upper and lower legends.

That'd be nice. I'd consider swapping the keycaps on this, but then you don't have the south print for all the custom functions. And custom keycaps are a bit further than I want to go.

Yes, losing your custom/special key markings is the downside of custom keycaps.

So it's a funny thing getting used to different keyboard layouts.

- I love having the numpad back, that's great.
- The positioning of the arrow keys, closer to the main keyboard is jarring. Amazing how your muscle memory expects something to be in a usual place.
- Losing the normal Home/End cluster, not so great. I learned I use Shift + Home and Shift + End A LOT for text selection. Losing those dedicated Home and End buttons is taking some getting used to. I can do Fn + Shift + Home or End, but that definitely isn't an action I can do with one hand as when the Home/End cluster is in its normal spot, so it slows down my workflow.
- No spacing between the sets of function keys is weird... but hasn't been a problem.

These aren't complaints about this layout. It does what it sets out to do well. But I just thought I'd pass it along because the change may not be for everyone. Obviously there are always compromises to get the smaller footprint, but you have to decide which compromises work for you if that smaller footprint is important.

Although I'm happy to have the numpad back, I'm not sure losing the traditional layout my TKL had is worth it? We'll see after more time at this one. There are definitely more things I like about this keyboard than things I don't like.

Its interesting to hear those thoughts, and I wonder how long it will take you to be fully accustomed to it. I was really tempted by some of the "compressed" keyboard layouts for my son's desk before Christmas (no room for a full sized keyboard), but elected to go TKL based pretty much on what you are saying (but the opposite view point)...I didn't want him to get too used to a keyboard early on that is non-standard and then have that cause problems when using something anywhere else that is standard.

Yup, that's absolutely a valid concern. Similar to my experience in another thread to why I stopped using split/ergo keyboards at home. Switching just had too much of an impact. I may run into the same issue with this new one and the normal keyboards in-office, but I hope not.

I'm pretty sure I'll keep using it because there are a lot of things I like about it, as I said. But if in the end I just can't get accustomed to it... well that'll be a lesson learned, an expensive one, but a lesson just same! :)

So I charged the keyboard for only the second time since purchase today. I changed it out of the box when I bought it, and then today. That is about 15 days of my use on a single charge. I'm pleased with that!

That had several full work from home days in there, and evening computer use some days, some gaming, not tonnes, but some. And that is with LED on, solid colour, at 90% brightness whenever in use, allowing the LED to turn off after 15 min of idle. I'd say even a heavy user could get a full week on a single charge.

Is it 2.4 or bluetooth? If it's bluetooth have you tried gaming with it? (My bargain basement wireless mechanical keyboards have atrocious bluetooth latency to the point where it's simply not feasible to game with them unless you're using 2.4 instead of bluetooth).

It has both but I am running 2.4 wireless. I have no reason to use Bluetooth at this point. The latency on 2.4 is non existent to me, feels the same as my wired keyboard, but I know Caldezar was having issues. Not sure the difference. In reviews this keyboard was applauded for its extremely low latency wireless for gaming.

I had issues with key ghosting and sometimes keys wouldn't 'unpress' strangely? Like I'd press a key and it would hold down for a second or two after letting go. But I had some updates to run, so that may have fixed it for me? I'll try again at some point. I know the dongle apparently has some Asus voodoo running the wireless that makes it great, so I'm hoping it clears up? But for now it's plugged in and functioning great.
