The AMD R9 Fury X Review; Fiji Arrives. Comment Thread

Hmmm....looks like you may be right. That is a first run card.....one that according to AMD should have never made it into the retail channel.

From what I hear, AMD's board partners can't keep up with the RMA requests from the initial batch let alone ship new units to retailers. It's a disaster.

Here is VisionTek replying to my RMA request:

Just got my Visiontek from Tiger Direct sale as well, same pump and same noise. Wondering if returning it and just paying $120 more for a 980 ti is going to be worth it if I'm going to be paying 2 way shipping to Visiontek for RMA anyway.

I've contacted TigerDirect requesting for a refund. Their online webform only allows for return for exchange for the same item. Going to sit this round of cards out and stick with my 290X for a while longer.

TD just replied back and is giving a full refund including a prepaid return label. I mentioned to them that I had already contacted the vendor about pump noise and how they do not have replacement stock.

TD said:
Thank you for contacting us.

We have processed a Return Authorization for a full refund. A prepaid UPS return label was emailed to you, which has everything you need to return the item(s). Please make sure that everything is returned back in the original product box. Please print out the label and apply it to the package, take it to any UPS location or drop off box, and UPS will send it back to us at no cost to you.

Please be advised it can take up to 5 business days to process a return from the day it gets back to the warehouse. In addition, it takes at least 3-5 business days, from the day the item shows returned in our system, for the credit to post back to your credit/debit card.

We appreciate your cooperation and apologize for any inconvenience.

I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that. Pretty decent CS if you ask me considering it's AMD's issue not TD's.

This is quickly turning into a fiasco that (unlike the "works as designed" 3.5G 970 stuttering problem) AMD probably can't just say the product isn't defective and refuse to refund.

Yes, I was also pleasantly surprised with how easily they issued a full refund. I'm going to run a couple more tests and record some more audio samples and then send it back in.

I was prepared to like the card, but the pump problem drove a nail into its coffin.
