So, I have thousands of dollars worth of computer and AV
We had a big wind storm; gear went down. My power doesnt , hasnt gone off much except for the last 2 years. The last power outage was traumatic.
.......and now the city has to replace this failing infrastructure.
Im looking at a solar generator to isolate voltage regulation and ups backup with batteries. ....and the sun.
Im looking at ecoflow delta 3 and/or bluetti. My fridge didnt make the last blast as it died 3 days after that.
Any folks have any xp's with this?

This time of year the solar array on my roof is pointless

Edit: To elaborate. It is a 11kW array and come this time of year the output isn't even worth clearing the snow off the panels. You can't really expect much with the poor solar angles and short days to get any meaningful charge to keep it topped off or recharged.

Might want to look at getting whole home surge protector installed at your panel as a cheaper starting point if its more about protection of electronics/appliances.

the grid is the problem. its going to be rebuilt over the next 2 years. I expect outages.
I want to mitigate with one of these solar generators as a ups for critical backup.

I have switched out most of my PC's UPS with the EcoFlow River 3 with 20ms switch over and so far it has been working great, it gives me about 2 hours of use. I have a generator which you could also go that route more cost and maintence of course.

If you use portable solar panels, so you can move them around during the day when having an outage, you could charge up the battery with the sun, depending on the weather, of course.

You might want to check out Eco-Worth. They are a low-cost, decent battery dealer. It will be a higher price. I have been looking at maybe adding in 10-30 KWR in battery as a backup on top of my generator, plus using it for saving money with time of use charges, not that it will save a huge amount, but just being able to add to my use case.

Yup, first thing I did since our power grid is 50 years out of date lol. Then moved onto generators and hook-ups, phase two might be batteries and solar, time and cash will tell.

Well you could add vertical wind mill + solar + time of day charging for battery packs if you really want to go all out. Add a smart panel so you could selectively power on circuits during an outage. This probably isn't cheap since you need to rewire the panel and while you are at it, may as well add panel side surge protector and external plug for gas generator.

Ah okay, I misunderstood then since the post made it sound like you haven't had any power outages so I was confused what the purpose of solar was.

However if the power grid is stable today, and they are rebuilding it over the next 2 years, I would suspect it's more of a side-by-side build and they'd slowly move load over. So you're just looking to have some temporary power for those couple hours? Or have they informed you to be without power for days while they do this work?

These portable batteries are likely fine for a couple hours, but you'll still be moving them around the house to plug in whatever you deem critical. Some only have a floating ground, since you mention sensitive electronics. Others do remain grounded if connected to a grounded outlet. Something to keep in mind perhaps.

Any long outages, I think you'd want to go with a whole-home setup and probably get a solar company to come in and put panels on the roof with a battery storage system.

This reminded me of something I forgot to touch on. With whole home solar that is grid tied, power goes out on the grid you loose power too. Doesn't matter if your in the middle of the summer at noon etc. If you have a whole home battery system you can bypass this limitation, without the whole home battery system you are stuck with that limitation. There might be some exceptions with exclusive interlocks but talking to a solar expert would be recommended if your trying to use an interlock approach without the whole home battery system.

Whole home surge protector would be a really good idea. Your probably paying an electrician more in labor to install it that the actual hardware cost.
