Tips on removing smoke/cigarette stank off a motherboard?

It's crazy how computers retain the smell, I guess with the case airflow the smell gets concentrated onto the parts somehow. I worked on a family member PC who does smoke and I remember the smell lingering in my workbench area. I guess the dust within the case had spread everywhere when I worked on it. Ended up washing the floors, walls, every frickin surface to get rid of the smell. It's terrible.

this was given as id upgraded the client's pc from a evga 1080 SC gpu to the Gigabyte 3070 TI 8gb told em once it arrived dropped off rig and completed upgrade. he then ghosted for months and finally got ahold of em he said could you sell it locally instead lol. but in its condition, i had to make sure it was cleaned and functional.

A quick search suggests that using a dishwasher for PCBs is a lot more common than you'd think.
I could see it working, though I'm not sure it's a good idea. If you used dishwasher detergent it'd be a horrible idea, with just water or water with a bit of white vinegar or isopropyl.... maybe.

If it dried completely it'd be fine, but I'd be concerned that if there's any gunk in the dishwasher you don't see it could end up shot into a connector or causing a short down the road. Dishwashers recycle most of their water, so even if it 'seems' clean, there could be junk in there. Similarly, you're shooting water at a reasonable pressure, so any contaminant could get pushed into a nook or cranny that wouldn't likely happen with a isopropyl soak.

If the board was seemingly dead and you had nothing to lose, I'd say go for it. Not sure I'd chance it otherwise.

Well prior to this clean I was not getting a video out I'll try a few other GPUs in 2 systems to determine if smoke killed this motherboard.

An older family friend of our has his computer beside his George Foreman grill... everything has an oily residue on it... so smoking isn't the only thing to watch out for!
Friends liquid cooled computer was overheating... radiators were CAKED with cat fur/dandruff etc. Thing destroyed me cleaning it because of my allergies. Didn't clean it in over 3 years not even dust it.

kind of off topic here I remember years ago a friend of mine moved int oan old house and the ywould get creaks noises adn smells sometimes , they thought that it was haunted I checked it out because i check out of such things at times and it ended up that the wood at temperature changed I guess expands or contracts and the smell of cigar smoke which was pretty strong would happen and of course same goes for most the other noises in the old house .
I really dont like that cigerette smell its gross long ago I bought a used system and it had the same issue I countered it buy using burning incense to be honest i am not sure if it actually worked or i just got used to that awful smell lol
