Toronto Maple Leafs...

I don't think they will make the playoffs, if Lupul and Kessel keep it up sure they will make the playoffs. But on the other hand we all know Phil Kessel and how pretty soon he will go a month without scoring.

That's the one problem when you only have 1 or 2 guys stepping up, if they can be stopped, either during the season or in the playoffs your team is done. Its what's plagued the Sens for several years now, though it seems this year rebuilding with a lot of new talent it seems players are stepping up and becoming a more balanced scoring team.

Anyone got a link to that punch to kessel's face that was called a dive by the ref? Haven't been able to find it and was wanting to see if it was Leafs fans blowing smoke or if it was a bad call.

The leafs will do what they always do, great start, horrible middle where they might as well forfeit 2 of 3 games and then strong finish to finally land in 9 - 11 spot in the standings. Although perhaps Kessel will finally be worth money/trade??? this season, or not.

Last year, the Leafs had 5 wins in October, this year, they had 7. Last year, they had 3 wins in November, this year, they already have 4. If they average 2 more wins a month than last season, or even one, then they will have 6-12 more wins and they'll be in good shape. As for Kessel, he's already at 50% of last year's totals in 1/4 of the games. Even if he slips to last year's pace, he'd still hit 77 points, a career high. The key stat for him right now is that he's +6, whereas last season he was -20. I doubt he'll slump as badly as he did last year, though I also don't think he'll continue his current pace. I'd take 75% of this pace from here on out and the 50 goals that would entail.

75% of that rate would be fantastic. Just hate to see another 18 game slide (at least I think it was 18 games no scoring streak last year). The beginning of the season was very interesting to watch but I fear the eventual slide back into mediocrity that I was talking. Its almost like they spend more time watching tape from their strong Octobers instead of concentrating on the games from mid Nov to mid Feb.

My prediction:

Leafs get a free division title due to a number of factors:
Boston returns to Stanley Cup hangover state.
Montreal can't get 5 uninjured players on the ice.
Buffalo starts to fall apart without Miller, ends up too far behind in the standings.
Ottawa... yeah...

I also predict they won't get very far in the first round, but at least they'll have a good playoff experience and they'll be ready to advance next year.
