Toronto Maple Leafs...

More on the Savard deal. Big risk, but I hope it happens.

Ulmer: The Savard Saga - Toronto Maple Leafs - Mike Ulmer's Blog
Savard is 32. He was spectacularly concussed by Pittsburgh thug Matt Cooke last season and he has had several concussions in his career. He has been the subject of rumours that he does not make things easy for coaches.

And oh yes, he is due $25.5 million dollars over the next four years. This guy is a contract dump waiting to happen.
This is all anyone needs to know.

Of course, knowing the Leafs, they'll probably deal for him.

Edit: is it believed they can get him for a 3rd liner? :blarg: The media has been speculating any deal would be Kaberle???? Regardless, it's way too big a risk. I think Savard's a good hockey player but how long would the guy last?

Dunno what you guys have been reading, but what i have been Boston doesn't want to pick up any players, more or less they want future considerations/draft picks, again

Yeah, so it's no point discussing any deals with Boston, then. The Toronto media always have to lock onto 'non-stories.' It's absurd for the Leafs to consider trading any more propects or picks away.

Yeah Boston wants pretty much nothing in return, they just need his 4m cap hit gone. They would probably accept some marlies prospects or late draft picks. This is why I think he is worth the gamble, Savard and Kessel reunited. We will see over the next few days I guess, trading opens tomorrow.

Leafs just made a trade:

Chicago trades Kris Versteeg to Toronto

I have to admit, I think it's a good deal. Too bad they had to lose Stalberg. He might end up being good. This is obviously because of Chicago's cap. Versteeg's a good player and had some key goals for the Hawks during their run.

Burke's trying to go for all the marbles in the shortest time frame possible. I don't think his team is in that situation but obviously, that's what MLSE wants. Sigh. Good trade, though. (However, I don't know the Leafs' prospects, though, going the other way).

Mixed feelings about that one. It sounds awesome now, but 3-4 seasons from now we could regret it. With that said, a lot can happen in 3-4 seasons.

Versteeg and Armstrong will get tons of icetime in Toronto. They aren't top 6 forwards on most teams but will be in Toronto. Will be interesting to see how Versteeg does with increased playing time.
